Casual Games Get Their Due With Awards Show

Casual games tend to get a bad rap. Shunned by so called "hardcore gamers" as not cool and often relegated to free-to-play websites where they become the playthings of bored housewives and students looking for an escape from school work. However, it can't be denied that the casual games market has explode over the past few years and have greatly contributed to the success of handheld consoles like the DS.
Now casual games are getting their own awards show thanks to Nickelodeon. On June 27th (8:00pm/7:00c) the kid friendly will air the "AddictingGames Showdown," showing off the best of the best in casual gaming. Although I must admit with categories like "Best Performance By A Monkey," "Most Courageous Stick Figure Stunt" and "Best Game From Planet Random," it's a bit hard to take seriously. But then again, look at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. Is "Best Game Fueled by Dew" any better?
