Rumor: Bungie Is Making Something Called Halo: Reach
For a short time, two new forums appeared in a list over at Bungie.net, the official Bungie website: one for Halo 3: ODST, the standalone expansion of Halo 3 coming later this year, and one for something called Halo: Reach. While it's possible this could be for a short film or an officially licensed Halo toothbrush, in general the other forums on the site are headed by specific games or game related concepts from the series, and even then the forums are all Bungie specific: the spin-off Halo Wars, developed by Ensemble, doesn't have a forum at Bungie.net.
At some point the company removed any mention of the two subforums, and deleted questions to their message board about their presence/absence. So I guess they've got something to hide? Or maybe a sick sense of humor.
An official prequel novel to Halo: Combat Evolved titled Halo: The Fall of Reach was released in 2001, detailing the origin of Master Chief and the events which led into the first three games in the series. Connecting this potential game with the novel would be pure speculation, although it's as likely as anything else. We knew that Halo 3: ODST would be a big part of Microsoft's E3 plans next week, but might we get another entirely new Halo title to obsess/complain/meh about? We'll probably know by tomorrow, after Microsoft presents their E3 conference.

I think now is actually a good time for Halo to come back...the GTA excitement is waning, and there aren't a lot of huge gaming forces looming on the horizon (with the exception of new Final Fantasy, but even that seems lackluster at the moment).
I also like that this doesn't say Halo 3: Reach, so that one might jump to the conclusion that this would be a whole new play experience, rather than the ODST game coming soon (which I'm still excited about anyway).
The novel Halo: Fall of Reach was a pretty good backstory for the Halo universe. Will be interesting to see how the game turns out.
