Is Mario Looking For A New Job?

mariothief2.jpg

It's so easy to take some of the finer details and back-story of classic video game characters for granted. For example, no matter where the next installment of Metroid takes players, it's easily to assume that it revolve around a bounty hunter named Samus who hunts down intergalactic space pirates. The next Grand Theft Auto is going to tell the story of a minor league gangster's rise to infamy as the head crime boss of a fictional metropolis.

But what would happen if designers were to dramatically alter some of these aspects? GameCareerGuide.com set out to find out using one of the medium's most recognizable icons. The design challenge was simple: Change Mario's Career. Designers were tasked with seeing how altering the legendary plumber's resume could effect the character's interactions and surroundings. The results garnered some interesting new job projects for Nintendo's leading man, such as master thief, watchmaker's son, barber, undertaker, and "magic pimp." Most of the designs include some odd, yet intriguing designer art that help let readers get a peek at these fascinatingly peculiar career paths. With 28 years of plumbing experience behind him, Mario might want to consider some of these options the next time he feels a mid-life crisis approaching.
