Getting Punched Out At Nintendo World!
To celebrate the release of Punch-Out!! on the Wii, Nintendo threw another one of its patented launch parties at the Nintendo World Store in NYC's Rockefeller Center. The centerpiece of the event was a massive tournament, but there were also other giveaways and trivia contests, as well as the opportunity to try out the game for yourself and even buy it a couple days before it was even due to hit stores everywhere else.
There was a massive crowd around the table where they held the trivia contest and giveaways that didn't let up until the very end when it was all over. In addition to stickers, they were handing out Doc's Remedy chocolate bars. Yummy! And it'll replenish your heath! In between tournament rounds, they held trivia contests, asking Punch-Out!! questions that ranged in difficulty from totally obvious to totally obscure. If you were picked out of the rabid crowd and answered correctly, you could walk away with a special Punch-Out!! pink hoodie, a Nintendo backpack, or even a copy of the game! The lucky winner of the final trivia question even got an autographed Little Mac boxing glove, of which there are only 400 in the world!
There was a kid in a full-on pink Little Mac training ensemble taking the whole thing very seriously, but unfortunately he was knocked out in one of the final rounds, just narrowly missing coming in third. Ian Eckert narrowly edge him out for that honor, winning a hoodie and a copy of the game. Then the top two contenders faced off and Cyr Fernandez walked away with the giant trophy, a hoodie, a boxing glove and the game. And for coming in second, Ariel Cabrera got a boxing glove, hoodie and copy of Punch-Out!!, so not too shabby there!
