GameFly Doesn't Like Your Mailman

mailman_a.jpg

I love Netflix, especially after they opened up a distribution center nearer to me so I could get my new movies in a matter of days instead of waiting a week. However, I never signed up for GameFly because I'm very slow to get through games, and it wouldn't be as cost-effective. However, I know people who use the service and enjoy it, but it seems that GameFly thinks it could be even better. That is, if the United States Postal Service wasn't screwing them over!

GameFly has filed a complaint against the USPS alleging that their mailers have been mishandled, while Blockbuster and Netflix are receiving special treatment. GameFly estimates that of the 590,000 videogames they ship monthly, between one and two percent are broken or stolen along the way. While working together to find a solution to this problem, GameFly and the USPS found that even changing to sturdier mailing envelopes didn't help, and along the way 19 postal employees were arrested for theft. Apparently, the investigation found that Blockbuster and Netflix mailers are manually removed from bulk mail and not processed through the machines that are damaging the discs.

I don't know if any of you guys out there are experiencing these kinds of problems with your GameFly rentals, but I do know that once in a while a Netflix movie will arrive with a crack in it. I suppose it's just the risk you take, mailing DVDs around. And I'm not surprised that they're more of a target for thieves, being that your average videogame costs at least twice that of your average DVD movie. Here's hoping they can work it out, preferably before everything turns to digital downloads and it doesn't matter anymore!

I use to use Gamefly and I was one of the person's who mail carrier stole my games and some of my netflix videos. I received a letter from some government office about how mail carrier X was caught in posession of games and movies and my name was on some of the labels. I was relieved as I really was blamming GameFly for bad service since most of my missing stuff was gamefly rentals.
