BattleForge, Now For $0.00

Just last night I was muttering into my cooking sherry and tipsily deciding whether or not to drop $29.99 on EA Phenomic's RTS/card battler amalgam BattleForge, which I enjoyed enormously in beta. But I guess all that fortified rubbing alcohol I've been drinking has had some positive effect on my braincase, since I declined to drop $30 on the game.
And what do I discover upon waking? Several things, but which abandoned tenement I stumbled from into the shaming light of dawn isn't important. Far more relevant is that overnight EA had decided to add BattleForge to their Play4Free suite of games free to download and play. Sounds like bad news for BattleForge's sales numbers, but great news for bargain-hunting gamers.
The game is still listed at $29.99 on Steam if you're determined to pay for it (that price itself a reduction from earlier this month), but the Play4Free version will include total access to all areas and functionality of the game, including all DLC for the game to date. It'll also give you two 32-card decks, but restricts some Auction House features as well as in-game mail with attachments until you've leveled up a bit: the Auction House opens at Level 4 in PvE and Level 10 in PvP.
Now go enjoy your free PC gaming love!
You always wanted to pay a visit to the World of Nyn but couldn't scrape together the fare for the trip? Then you should now start packing your bags because BattleForge is now a Play4Free title!
The BattleForge Play4Free Client, which you can download here, offers you complete access to all areas and functionality of the game, including all content updates (new PvP maps, Renegade Campaign) made available since release.
Along with all functionality of the game, BattleForge Play4Free includes two decks consisting of 32 cards. You can play any scenario in the game, including the Renegade Campaign. With BattleForge Play4Free, you are also able to purchase Booster Pack and bid on cards in the Auction House.
However, you can only offer a card in the Auction House once you have reached level 4 in PvE and level 10 in PvP. Direct trades and sending in-game mail with attachments are also blocked until you reach this experience level.
You tried out BattleForge with the demo? Then it's definitely worth your while to switch over to Play4Free. In the demo version, you could only play a small number of the maps and scenarios available, and you couldn't trade or buy cards in the auction house. Those restrictions have been removed!
