GameStop CEO Wants PS3 Price Cut, Warns Of Unknown Nintendo Holiday Title

When you happen to be the CEO of one of the biggest video game retailers people tend to listen to your opinion on things like price drops, future blockbusters, and mysterious unannounced Nintendo titles. Such is the case for GameStop CEO, Don Dematteo. In a recent interview, CNBC got a glimpse into Dematteo's thought process and got some frank answers.
Stating that "price point is clearly an issue in this economy," it seems that the question on everybody's mind is a possible price cuts. The GameStop boss said that he would especially like to see Sony lower the price of the PS3. Dematteo is also quoted that he feels this year "could" see the demand for the Wii slow to the point that Nintendo would see fit to give the system it's first price reduction. With the Wii still eclipsing competitors on the NPDs, I'm not sure how probable that is but I suppose it "could" happen.
The interview goes on to detail Dematteo's predictions for the biggest sellers of the year, namely the next Call of Duty and the still vague DJ Hero. No surprises there, but he most interesting tidbit hints at a big release from Nintendo...
"We think there will be a Nintendo key property coming out by the end of the year," he says. "They haven't given us any insight, but they have told us to reserve [shelf] space."
It might be dryly summed up as "Nintendo to release game for holiday season," but when was the last time you've heard about them telling retailers to reserve shelf space for a title like that? CNBC irrationally pretends that a new console Zelda entry is a possibility, but it could be just about anything.
Note to Nintendo: I'm still waiting very impatiently for a new Kid Icarus.

Except for portables, I don't think Nintendo has released a single AAA game in the last 3 generations without close to a year of hype behind it, even including stuff like Wii Play and Wii Sports Resort. In the case of Zelda games it's usually more like 2 or 3 years. (I don't remember if that was the case for Majora's Mask, but certainly for Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.)
If Nintendo announces something at E3 or later for xmas release, it's either going to be rushed or not a AAA game.
