Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse Visa Revoked... Japan Sends Its Love
So, I was extremely excited when I heard that Suda 51 of Grasshopper Manufacture was going to be working on Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Fantastic producer, fantastic series, what is not to love? The game, apparently. It was riddled with problems from bugs to just not being that fun. And the Wii was perfect for the title, point and shoot controller + camera action. Sad, but it happens.
Like many people, I was hoping that these problems would be mostly resolved for a US release. I mean, it was going to hit here, right? I guess not. Fils-Aime has already said that Nintendo is not the publisher, and in this statement from Tecmo pretty much confirms that no one else has expressed interest:
Nintendo of America has since then decided not to publish the title in North America - consequently, the title will not be released in this territory. As the owner of the IP, Tecmo feels very unfortunate that the fans of the series in North America will not have a chance to play the game, but respects the final decision made by Nintendo of America.
And what about Europe? Nintendo released this statement:
there are currently no plans to release this game in Europe.
I guess I'm going to have to import the title if I want to give the game a go. It is just a shame that a title that looked so promising proved so poorly executed.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been looking forward to it for years! Now I guess I too must import it and figure it out. But Fatal Frame is one of the few survival-horror games left so its worth it.
Actually, there is some confusion on this. The Tecmo statement is on the old side and IGN, where this story originated, paired it with a year old Fils-Aime quote to get to the "NO FATAL FRAME IV EVEERERER!!!!!!!eleenty" ,
The title is getting released in Europe, and there have been hints that Xeed is doing the honers in the US. No absolute confirmation of a "yes it's coming" , but no "WHY IS NINTENDO SO SUUUPID" either...
ya think IGN would have grown up by now.
Don't know about it being buggy or anything, but when I was visiting my sister in Japan, she and her friend were playing this game constantly, it looked like a lot of fun, and really not buggy, maybe a bit hard to handle if you don't know the controls already.
I think when companies start to cry about homebrews, they should take a look at cases like these...
