EA Releases DRM Management And Removal Tool

PC gamers celebrate, EA has released a new de-authorization tool! EA games released from May 2008 to present use SecuROM, which limits user installs of the game to five. Now, using this tool, you can de-authorize your computer before reformatting hard drives or replacing your PC. You know, stuff that people actually do that SecuROM never takes into account.
I applaud this move by EA, apparently they were quite serious about easing up on DRM. You may recall, they also stated they are not using DRM for The Sims 3 when it's released. The games this tool affects includes the PC versions of Mass Effect, Crysis, and Mercenaries 2, along with Spore and Red Alert 3, just to name a few.
It's really quite nice to see the industry start to listen to gamers when they complain about the sometimes draconian DRM schemes that consumers are saddled with. I know EA has their download manager program, perhaps they will start tying their titles into a Steam-like launcher or something that is less frustrating for the end user.

What's today again?
this isn't an april fools joke (at least i don't think so)... and it doesn't remove DRM from your game or secuROM. all it does is makes it so you can deactivate a certain game from your computer... just in case you need to reinstall windows or you get a new pc. but once you reinstall the game you have to reactivate it on your new PC with secuROM still present. so the DRM is still there... just easier to manage now... its a step forward... just a very small step forward. but yay for them not doing this at all with the sims 3... now that is a very big step forward for EA
So basically when I finally get Mass Effect I need to buy the game, then download a hacked version without the crappy DRM. Good show, EA.
Seriously, when are they going to realize that obstructive DRM crap like this hurts their paying customers and doesn't do a damn thing to prevent piracy?
