Rumor: Bioshock 2 Shatters The Glass Ceiling With "Big Sisters"

According to sources of Kotaku's Brian Crecente, the fast, thin kidnappers teased on the recently launched website for Bioshock 2 aren't just Big Daddies who have started cutting out carbs. Turns out they may actually be a brand new relative: Big SIsters.
We've heard that [these] Big Sisters will be an amazonian version of the Big Daddy, wearing similar, though svelter, gear.
Presumably Big Sisters would be agile and fast where Big Daddies are powerful and strong. I'm not sure if the term Big Sister comes from Crecente or his source. For a true parallel they really should be Big Mommies or maybe Big Mamas, otherwise it seems a bit paternalistic. Perhaps they're saving the rest of the family for other sequels. I can't wait to get a my birthday check from Big Granny in Bioshock 5: Lagoon of Ennui.
The aforementioned teaser site has been updated with a few additional reports of missing girls and the evidence their captors have left behind. Further plot speculation is tough without more concrete details, but I'm going to go out on a (short) limb and say that if this Big Sister stuff pans out, the protagonist of this game will be a woman, possibly a mother or actual big sister to one of the kidnapped girls. I'm also curious to know which ending of the first game is canon, or if they'll somehow avoid referencing it at all, as it seems like it would make a big difference on anything that comes after. While hopefully we won't have to wait much longer before we get more information, I'm kind of hoping that all the game's secrets aren't spilled before it hits shelves at the end of the year. I like a little mystery.

I seriously have my doubts on the validity of these claims. Kotaku doesn't have the best track record. Regardless, excited to get more info on the game.
A rather interesting take:

It seems legit. A forum's member (Scott J) at Kotaku predicted this story was forthcoming, stating that he's seen some of the original artwork for the game. He elaborated to say:
"Its a Big Daddy only it has a slim female body, instead of the drill hand its a blade. It has this weird spherical metal object on its back with pink bows tied to it all around."
I know I should just trust in the process, but I'm already skeptical of this reimagining of Bioshock's gentle antagonist -- it'd be like have a female Pyramid Head.
Given that you already have adult women enemies in the game (or the previous one anyway) I don't see how these Big Sisters are necesairy per se.
I've always wondered more what happened with all the little boys in Rapture. Or did everybody just use adam to change their children into girls?
Rapture doesn't seem like the kind of place where a child, no matter how spliced up, could survive. Little Sisters are an exception because, as the game points out, the parasitic slug renders them invincible (despite the incomprehensible escort mission toward the end of the game). Still, there are haunting relics of a missing generation throughout Bioshock: Like the baby stroller at the very beginning.
Like Nexus, I don't really understand the need to genderize Big Daddy. Part of his appeal comes from his gender ambiguity. But everything "Bioshock 2" is filtered through my skepticism because I desperately hope the sequel can live up to its predecessor (last ten minutes of the game notwithstanding).
Personally I think Tenenbaum might be an enemy in bioshock 2.
You didn't kill her off, and she survived to the end (pressumably staying in Rapture... it didn't mention that she left with you and the little sisters I don't think)
It wouldn't be too far fetched that she spliced up and survived a few more generations, what with all the ADAM she could ever need.
Atlas/Fontaine did hint that she wasn't as benevolent as she appeared to be.
