Rumorama: Metroid Spinoff Will Center On Space Pirates

metroidss.jpg

A teaser image on Nintendo of Japan's Metroid website seems to be hinting at something new coming in the Metroid Universe. Along with the words, "Another Side Story," and a picture of a Space Pirate doing his best Blue Steel, there's some Japanese text, reportedly reading:

Follow Metroid Prime's history from the perspective of the Space Pirates.

Personally, I'm wearing my skeptical face about this being a whole new game, but you can judge yourself. Beyond the Play Control remakes, we haven't heard anything about a new Metroid title in quite some time, ever since Dread for the DS was apparently canceled. Could this be a resurrection of that?

If it's an actual game, and not just an online comic or video series, they'll have to come up with a pretty good excuse why Nintendo didn't just make a new honest-to-goodness Metroid title. The Space Pirates have never been terribly charismatic villains - they seem more like cannon fodder really - and if I remember correctly, things don't really work out so well for them. That's not to say there isn't a decent game to be made, I'm just pretty sure I'd rather play as Samus again.

As a J->E translator, and that includes videogames, I can assure you that the English translation is correct.

I'm not a fan of the Metroid series, but I'm sure this will make those that are fans happy. :D

I've never felt any sort of fondness or loathing for the Space Pirates. They're just kind... there. Like Goombas or Octoroks. (Granted, only a lot stupider. Who designs buildings and doors that can all be specifically accessed by your main adversary? I mean, that's an awful lot of one-meter in diameter shafts hangin' around.) Sure, they only had one game. but I even like the Ing better than Space Pirates. I mean... they could melt! How cool is that?

But still, it doesn't mean it won't be good. And who knows? Maybe this game will make me feel something for them. :3

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
