Sonic Fan Overturns Dumb Law

11-year old Judson King of Lawrence, Kansas is apparently a big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog. So big, in fact, when he was 8 years old, he decided he needed to have one as a pet, despite real hedgehogs looking and acting nothing like the videogame one. Hey, I got a box tortoise during the first TMNT craze, so I'm not going to judge. Unfortunately for Judson, he found out that hedgehogs were illegal in his town. Instead of giving up and settling for a nice chinchilla or box full of needles, Judson hunkered down and started studying how he could go about changing the law, which resulted in an appearance before the city commissioners. When the group couldn't figure out why the animal was made illegal in the first place - maybe they were big Super Nintendo fans - they overturned the law, allowing Judson to get his very own hedgehog this Christmas. Aww. At least until they remember why the law was written in the first place, but by then I fear it will be too late.

Awww, that's the cutest hedgehog pic ever. I want one now.
my aunt smuggled hedgehogs from arizona once, they were too cute! especially their underbellies (super soft!) but i guess they're a rodent thats detrimental to the ecosystem and all that jazz. at least in california.
Awwww, it's so cute. Luckily, I don't need to keep a hedgehog as a pet since we always have a handful of them running around in the yard during summer.
Awww. That reminds me of the issue of "Lucifer" when Elaine and her slightly wet friend Mona became guardian angels. Mona was made guardian angel of hedgehogs, and Elaine was made guardian angel of "everything but hedgehogs."
Is that the actual picture of his hedgehog, or just a random pic chosen to illustrate the article?
Strangely enough, Lawrence is fairly close to the former hedgehog capital of the Midwest: Iola, KS.
I can't remember how I found out about it, but they used to have an annual Hogfest in Iola.
@dave - It's a pic I nabbed from CuteOverload. His hedgehog looks larger and fully grown. Still pretty cute though.
A pet you can not pet with out wearing gloves of some kind. Kind of funny.
Mmmmm cute flea infestedness :P
Aw I had one as a kid. Re Demise: Actually once you own a hedgehog and it learns to trust you, you can pick it up and pet it (in the right direction). Mine was with me for several years until his demise from old age. Makes me want to get another one.
Kid creeps me out. I agree: for me, Sonic reassembles nothing like a hedgehog, rather, he is only a hedgehog by name. I guess this just proves to show that loose video game representations of reality really do inspire real life decisions...maybe the kid will stick a controller up it's ass to try to prevent it from running into walls.
Hedgehogs are terrible pets. Cute though.
