*Poke* Your Senator For Net Neutrality And Universal Broadband

piggy-bank.jpg

Well, as many of the gaming folks in the United States know, the country is currently in a recession. In fact, even those abroad are feeling some of the results of a weak economy throughout the world; however, hope is on the horizon in the form of President Barrack Obama and his new economic stimulus package. The good thing for all you gamers out there is that the package includes provisions for establishing Net Neutrality and Universal Broadband, which are both great things for online gaming and their communities. This package, along with the FCC Chairman appointee, Julius Genachowski, shows how the new administration is really working to usher in Net Neutrality. On the recent podcast I tried to explain in layman's terms what net neutrality is; nevertheless, there is the ever changing entity known as wikipedia to help define it in more concrete terms if you need it.

Back to the point, this stimulus package will soon be going before Congress for approval and the ECA has put together a website to help you get the word out to your Senator and Representative that you want them to support this package. A little reason as to why gamers would want to *poke* their congressmen:

Net Neutrality and Universal Broadband are not only great for America; they allow us to play the games we want at high speeds!

Now is the time to act and let our voices be heard. The new stimulus package that Congress is moving rapidly on has exciting provisions for Universal Broadband and Net Neutrality. The bill would provide for $2.8 billion in grants to develop broadband connections in under served and rural populations. In its current form, the bill also requires that any infrastructure built with the grant money has "open access basis" which would be defined by the new administration's FCC, but which seems to mirror Network Neutrality guidelines.

So go to the website, fill out your info, and change the body of their letter as you see fit to further emphasis the message you want to send, and *poke* your representative so that your voice is heard.

Tell Congress to Support Universal Broadband and Net Neutrality Now!
