New FF Crystal Chronicles Game Unites Wii & DS Gamers

While the interactivity between Nintendo's Wii console and DS handheld has been... lacking, to say the least, Square Enix is looking to change all of that with its intriguing new gameplay design for the upcoming Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time. The game will launch simultaneously on the Wii and DS on March 24, and for the first time, will allow Wii and DS users to play with each other! They're promising a "seamless, hassle-free in-game switch from single to multiplayer mode," so it should be no problem for you to play Echoes of Time with your friend even while you're on the road. He logs in with his Wii while you do the same on your DS. I can't believe nobody's done this before!
Further details about how the actual multiplayer games will be constructed aren't in the press release, but I'd assume they'll utilize Nintendo's cumbersome friend codes. Hopefully even if you play both games, you can use one code. The controls will be the same as in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, adapted for the Wii. You can switch from single to multiplayer at any point in the game, and can develop your hero from four races (Clavats, Lilties, Selkies and Yukes) and customizing materials, armor and equipment should ensure enough variety in multiplayer characters. Also, players of the Wii version can use their Miis! (Although seeing how awkward those look in Animal Crossing: City Folk, I'm not sure that'll be a viable option...) Squeenix is promising a vast selection of quests delivering hours of fun, but even after completing the main adventure, the "New Game+" feature adds increased difficulty and better items with every new go-round!
There's a Wii screenshot up above, and below, a couple from the DS version. It's all they've released so far, sorry!
