Namco's New Naruto

Naruto_Shippuden.jpg

Huh. I didn't even know that there was a Naruto series subtitled Shippuden in the first place, but Namco Bandai has just announced the development of a new game based on the animated seies due out in March for the PlayStation 2. Huh.

"Ultimate Ninja 4: NARUTO Shippuden will be the first video game based on the NARUTO Shippuden animated series in North America, giving players their first look at how Naruto's world has changed in the two and a half years since he left his friends to refine his ninja training," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing and public relations with NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. "Featuring the biggest roster of playable characters ever in the Ultimate Ninja franchise and a variety of new and engaging game modes, it's everything Naruto fans need to immerse themselves in the characters and storyline of NARUTO Shippuden."

As Naruto reunites with his old friends to save his rival Sasuke from the evil Orochimaru he gets wrapped up with a mysterious organization called Akatsuki. Gamers will experience the new "Master Mode" which combines role-playing and action-platforming elements in an original storyline they won't find elsewhere. Collecting items in this mode unlocks characters in Free Battle Mode, which features the classic one-on-one fighting, with 52 total playable characters.

It's interesting to see Namco Bandai continuing to develop for the PS2, but I suppose these kind of games do really well on that platform. I'm sure they can sell more there than if it was on the PS3. Of course, I don't even know how many of you guys even care about this item. Do we even have any Naruto fans around here?

Ninja storm on the PS3 is an awesome game!!!! You would think it sucks cause most anime games suck but it is great and even gets non gamers into it

Not a big fan of the games, but the Naruto Shippuden series has been great.

They're already up to episode 90-something in the Shippuden series. The characters are no longer 14, they're more like 17. That means the door is open to barely legal sex humor. :-)

Naruto matures a lot as a character. His sexuality is called into question frequently by way of misunderstood advances from his male friends.

Are they developing new or porting one of the Accel import games? Honestly though, I always enjoy playing the cel shaded Naruto fighting games in the PS2. Better than the Xbox version :(

@Rykar: It's just going to be a translation, near as I can tell. It got released a while back in Japan, but it's just now coming here as we've finally reached Shippuden.

Yeah, I'm assuming it's just a port of Accel with the Ultimate Ninja name slapped on it. I've played Accel 2 last year, got an import copy, and it's a fun little Smash Bros Clone so should be a lot of fun to actually be able to play the story mode in english now.

yeah, this sounds like the first Accel title. I'm still thinking that the series peaked with Narutimate Heros 3 (Ultimate Ninja 3 in the states, I think) though the PS3 title was at least a worthy effort.

in any case, it's far from a horrible title, and fans of the series should be pleased. you could do far worse with other licensed titles.
