Crystal Defenders Coming To... Everything.
When I first heard about Crystal Defenders, I was excited to see that Square Enix had decided to continue developing for Apple branded handhelds, and brought a title from Japan to the iPhone. Then I downloaded it and realized that it was a tower defense title. I don't directly hate the genre, but working at a company that specialized in working with casual flash game developers, I'm a little burned out on the genre. All things considered, however, it is a very good tower defense game.
Now, if you don't own an iPod Touch or an iPhone, you will soon have the ability to play this game on your very own home console. Like, all of them. Square Enix announced that they will be bringing this title to the Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 as a downloadable title.
Details have been vague at best. We know that the Wii Version is called "Crystal Defenders R1", but we do not know if this differs from the other titles that will be released on the competing consoles. My guess is no. The WiiWare title drops in Japan January 27th. The Xbox and PS3 versions remain a mystery.
