Home Servers Now Live: Was It Worth The Wait?

sullysbar.jpg

Sony's Home servers have been live (again) for about 20 minutes now and people are already flooding in to check it out. A lot has changed since yesterday, the biggest change probably being the facelift on the Home Plaza or central meeting area. It looks much less generic and sterile than the original design which is a welcome improvement. Also here are the Far Cry 2 and Uncharted themed areas both of which are quite nice to look at. Unfortunately all the furniture I placed in my apartment is gone so I will have to redecorate but so it goes. At least I have retained my free items I got yesterday.

I stopped in at the mall to check on prices and find new items, but all that was available were the ones I got yesterday. A new house will set you back $5 while furniture is $1 and clothing items come in around 50 cents. Not too terrible considering. I was hoping to see the Diesel Store and Ligne Roset, but at this time neither of them were present. Perhaps later today?

Be sure to chime in and let us know what you think of the long awaited Home in the comments! Was it worth the wait?

With the exception of sub accounts and parental control bugs preventing some people from being able to get into Home period... it isn't that bad.

Did the site open it's clubhouse yet?

just spent the better part of the last few hours there - played a game of pool, played some of the arcade minigames (which are pretty great, actually), and was dismayed that, so far, the clothing options do not reflect any part of my personal style.

am *dying* to know when the gaygamer club starts up!

i'm hadrianvii on Home... i stupidly forgot my bluetooth at home (at the 'rents for the holiday break), so chatting will be slow going, but wave if you see me!

The price of clothes and furniture is a tad expensive considering it's all virtual. But then again it's early days and there might be ways to earn new stuff instead of having to buy something that isn't there!

I am enjoying the new central plaza look but I was hoping to see some new stores open up at the mall. I haven't tried starting a game up through home yet either so that's something to look forward too.I was also hoping to see some new furniture but I was only denied. A picture frame would have been nice that could display your pictures on your HD but they were having that fiasco about playing video and displaying pictures earlier this year or last year.

Overall I think Home has a long way to go, it's only the beginning and it should flesh it self out as time goes on.

I've never really used a social gaming environment like this on a console, but I did check it out. I was actually really turned off at the vulgarity of it. I heard the word f*g at least five times in half an hour. Maybe it was just the people I was around at the time. Can't wait for the gaygamer club.

I can't believe there are absolutely NO beards in the avatar creation. What's a bear to do?

It's really cool - but obviously they need to add to it to create more. But I think it has a TON of potential.
