DIY: Make Your Own Arcade Stick Without Solder, Mess, Tears

I don't know about you, but with the recent release of Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix my heart has been yearning for a quality arcade stick. The PS3/360 controllers are fine and all most of the time but there are those times when only a good stick will do. I could go to the usual websites and import something impersonal and extremely expensive, but where's the fun in that? The other option is the build my own setup, but without a whole lot of soldering experience under my belt, I'm not sure just how productive, cost-effective, or fun it would be. While researching the subject I stumbled across this nifty little guide over at Cheap Ass Gamer that was made to help out those that want something custom but without a lot of the tiny soldering.
The aptly named guide, The Beginners Guide to Making a Top Tier Arcade Stick: Solderfree Edition, gives the reader a general introduction and overview to building the perfect joystick. You'll see a few samples that look pretty sweet and an assortment of links to where you can find some rather nifty customizable pieces. Most of the examples you'll see in the guide show off some nice fighter focused layouts and artwork, but just about any type of retro arcade gamer would appreciate a more authentic experience, be it a brawler, shooter, or mahjong. For the "crafty" gamer, the mind begins to wonder just thinking about how you can make the most out of a project like this. Personally speaking, I don't think I could restrain myself from making an epic Rainbow Brite stick complete with a spectrum of colorful buttons.
