Castle Crashers: Finally Network Ready

screencap1.jpg

Like many others I've purchased Castle Crashers without blinking an eye. Numerous video trailers, positive press coverage and just general pats on the back to The Behemoth followed just about every shred of information that we, the gamers of the world, could get our grubby little hands on. Release day was a happy time. I plowed through the single player missions, leveled up my little blue knight and was ready for the interwebs.

... and then there were zero. After managing to maintain a 4 player online game for 8 minutes before the game successfully booted me and my cohorts out into the inky blackness of single-playerdom, I decided it was best to just not attempt another go at the ill fated network play until someone figured out what was going on. Cut to three months later, and The Behemoth has finally released the patch to fix the problems and now online play is here to stay.

So, what was the problem? Why did it take 3 months to finally get it fixed? Well, the long and short of it is that Microsoft's certification process is a giant black box of bureaucracy. This was a quote taken from an earlier interview on the Xbox 360 Fanboy:

We're working with Microsoft to get the title update out as quickly as we can. Sadly, we can't get into details about the certification process, but we've resolved the game's issues with data loss and networking in addition to other bugs. We can't really comment on the release yet as we're not allowed to talk about it because of Microsoft, but the update's release is definitely reaching the end of the process.

Wether it was worth it or not really does not matter. The point is that the game is fixed and we should all enjoy it over the holiday break.
