Video: MK Vs DC: Fatalities, The Debate Rages On
Should the fatalities in Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe be toned down for the coveted teen rating? If the video above is any indication, toned down fatalities resemble boring old special moves. I thought the purpose of a fatality was to actually prevent your opponent from taking another breath. Stomping on the back of a heavily armored Lex Luthor probably hurts less than a really good chiropractor. With news that The Joker's fatality will remain uncensored in Europe (he shoots his opponent in the face) I'm left to wonder if we've gone back in time. Remember the days when Sub Zero's fatality on the SNES was freezing and shattering his enemy? Those days are back. Mortal Kombat's appeal is the brutal yet often over the top violence, not it's well thought out fighting mechanics. Please don't hate me for saying that, I prefer MK over every other fighter, but not because of the fighting, because of the beating heart that it rips from my chest.
What do you think, should the game be toned down because it involves superheroes, or should MK be what MK has always been. Also I'm more of a fan of Marvel Comics, but I know enough to know DC is not afraid to venture into a darker territory. Maybe it should have been MK Vs. Vertigo...

Ok, those were hella lame! I agree with Super Heroes not having Fatalities for the fact that they are the "good guys," but it is supposed to be MK.
Midway might be relying heavily on MK vs DC due to it's company's stock market value. So, not making it gory for an M rating makes sense, attracting a wider market than just "Mature" people.
Although, MK is not really MK without the gory fatalities (severed limbs, decapitations, and such). I'll rent before buying. Especially, since I hated the 3D MK versions prior to this one.
I think if DC didn't want their characters featured in a violent game they shouldn't have licensed them to be in ***FREAKING MORTAL KOMBAT***.

it's funny you say we've gone back in time, because i don't think we have. i remember games like 'time killers' where you get to cut off arms, legs, and heads before MK. or even eternal champions with their brutalities.
i think MK vs. DC totally takes us to something like, killer instinct. it's almost as comedic as maya's ultra -- shrinking her opponent to something like 6" tall.

Guess I will be avoiding this game all together. Fatalities, as much as I hate to say it, made Mortal Kombat worth playing. These just make me look away...in disappointment.
Should have been DC VS Marvel. Mortal Kombat is dead to me now.

I don't think that's it.
DC is pretty dark at the moment. Just read stuff like the Final Crisis Rage of the Red Lanterns special or the first issue of Terror Titans which had a guy cut in two.
DC isn't afraid of showing gore.
^Yeah, but the stuff in the comics flies under the public's radar most of the time. Video games are a target that certain groups are always scrutinizing and I guarantee that at least once, Fox News would play the video of Superman crushing Sonya's head like Jax and say something about how DC and Midway are using Superman to promote violence against women.
I know it sounds stupid, but it's hardly the dumbest thing said about a game and especially with the election over, they'll be clamoring for more "scary news" to appeal to their audience. They might as well just not open themselves up to the criticism, especially since it doesn't enhance the gameplay enough to really change the final product.
I'll be skipping this MK. Hopefully, the next iteration will be that gritty Gears of War like version they scrapped to publish this instead.
Typical of the MK franchise to screw up yet again in the lamest way. Why am I not surprised.
