Professor Layton And The Mysterious Film Release Date Announcement

Sometimes when you hear about a new movie based on a game it just makes so much sense that you wonder what took so long for someone do it. Atmospheric games like Silent Hill or games inspired by other works of cinema like Resident Evil come to mind. While these films often have uneven results, I've already got my hopes high for Professor Layton: The First Movie. Based on the popular Professor Layton series appearing on the DS and set to open in Japanese theaters in January 2010, the film is being scripted by Level5 president and series designer Akihiro Hino and will feature the familiar voices (for Japanese players) of Yo Oizumi and Maki Horikita. But that's not all! Fans of perplexing puzzles can expect to see a serial manga and even a live action film sometime in the future also. I guess there are a lot of people that need help with their geometry homework. Who knew?
While some of the puzzles featured in The Curious Village brought back more Roberta Williams designed flashbacks than I would have preferred, the Professor's first outing here in the states ranks pretty high on my list of DS favorites. It's a shame that fans are still waiting for Nintendo of America to make good on their "coming soon" promise of the sequel when the third game in the series is getting released this month in Japan. Maybe some added fan support from these anime, live action, and manga projects will get their attention.

This will be such a good movie. I love the game...the characters need more time to really let us enjoy them. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting.
