Hands On With Prince Of Persia

Ubisoft hosted a spectacular soiree last night for the press to get some hands on time with the new Prince of Persia game. There was hookah smoking, an aerialist show and even a Prince and Elika both of whom had the majority of their costumes painted on. And I mean really painted on, not just tight clothes!
Unfortunately, my time with the game was rather limited since there were loads of people waiting their turn, but the time I did get was spectacular. The new "cel shaded" graphic style was crisp and gave everything the look of a watercolor painting. The style of the cel shading definitely gave it an artistic flair without seeming cartoony like say, Windwaker. The character models looked amazing and I must say, the Prince was ripped!
The controls were solid and hearkened back to Sands of Time, a control system I was personally very fond of. It was fairly easy to get from place to place but the acrobatics and tricks are so fantastic it really gives you a sense of accomplishment when you make that giant leap. Although not all giant leaps can be done alone. You get lots of help from your counterpart, the lovely Elika who while beautiful is still sporting that awful spiky, flippy Meg Ryan hairdo from the early 2000s. You know, that same one they put on Jean Grey in the second X-Men movie? But I digress... Despite her out of date hair style, Elika has some powerful moves that will help you along the way. Her presence will ensure that you never die by giving you a hand (literally) whenever you fall. She can also come to your aid in battles but never gets in the way.
I'm looking forward to the launch of this game next month and I would even go so far as to say that it will be the last really great title coming out this year. As if it wasn't going to be difficult enough for gamers to choose between the huge amount of AAA titles this season, Ubisoft adds one more to the fray.
