From Homotron: Bonus Zune Update Adds Games, Social Features

zune-spacebattle.jpg

Yesterday marked an unusual "mid-cycle" software update for the Zune: the new 3.1 update adds the curious feature of a "like minded listeners" option, which displays other Zune Social members who listen to your kind of music. That sounds a little too close to speed dating for my own comfort, but a feature is a feature, I suppose.

Far more useful are the three new games that have arrived on the Zune: Checkers, Sudoku and Space Battle (pictured). That Apple, a non-gaming company, has gotten so many games to the iPod should make Microsoft absolutely ashamed! So while three new games may not exactly beat the sudden catalog of iPod games, it's development in the right direction.

I'm loving the new stuff.^^ Space Blaster is a pretty competent shooter, especially for a portable music device.

Believe it or not, I'm working as a game tester for the company that did Space Battle. It is a pretty sweet game, and I'm glad to see it's getting positive reviews. Now I never EVER want to play it again. :)

Will be ever be able to get Zune XNA games through the Zune Marketplace, though?

actually, the fact that the Zune devices have physically changed since their initial launch, and they are making the games compatible with all 3 gens is fantastic. i think that would slow the progress on the game manufacturing.

also, the xbox rep at my store let me in on the fact that you can play XNA games on the Zune, long before 3.0 even launched. the catch, they have to be XNA that are designed to work with the Zune's unit, and they are few and far between. anyway, have a look here: http://www.zuneboards.com/forums/download-completed-games-174/

In order to log into Zune after the download, you have to agree to the new terms of Service. The problem is, the Zune program takes you to the wrong link.

The fix: manually find the terms of service page yourself on the zune site and agree to it.

Just a heads up to everyone.
