Resistance 2 Infects Your PSP

Infect the PSP.jpg

I'm sure all of you PS3 owners that have Resistance: Fall of Man are anxiously awaiting the sequel Resistance 2. Resistance was probably one of the better PS3 games available to the system around when it launched, and Insomniac Games always knows how to make high quality games. I'm sure plenty of PSP owners are also excited to hear about the game Resistance: Retribution that is in the works with all that hot FPS shooter action on your PSP screen; however, just announced today is how the two games will be able to interact with each other. Seems like the two options they are serving up are Infection and Plus.

In the Infection mode, you hook your PSP up to your PS3 with a USB cable and then select the "Infect My PSP" mode, and watch as your gameplay and story slightly change. Turns out the infection comes in the form of one of the characters from R2 coming to the main character of R:R and infecting him with a strain of the Chimeran virus at teh beginning of the game. Due to this infection:

Grayson wears a Specter uniform and has glowing Chimeran eyes. He gets to use one of the new weapons from R2: the HE .44 Magnum, which fires explosive rounds that can be triggered remotely. He has regenerative health and no longer needs to look for health packs. He can breathe underwater, allowing him to reach hidden areas that he could not reach before. And we've added another whole class of Intel that are hidden throughout the levels. Collecting all of the "infected" intel will unlock another R2 weapon, the Plasma Grenades.

Which is quite a bit of extra features for just owning both games. Now the other mode, Plus, allows you to actually use a PS3 controller to remote play the R:R game on your PSP, which means you get the action of two analog sticks and rumble at your disposal. In the Plus version they have also removed the aim assist in the game to add a bit more challenge to what you are playing.

Overall the two modes that you get for having both games on both systems seems like a very nice added bonus to those fans of the series and probably adds a great deal of extended gameplay to the R:R title. Much better than extra Pokemon or armor pieces, which is the normal prize for owning multiple games from a single franchise. Look to see Resistance 2 hitting shelves on November 4th and for Resistance: Retribution to be out sometime in Spring 2009 from Sony Bend.
