"Interactive Digital Art" Piece Linger In Shadows Gets Dated, Explained (Sort Of)

The Playstation Blog has a post up from Rusty Buchert, Senior Producer for Linger In Shadows, a piece of "interactive digital art" coming to PSN October 9th. Buchert tries to explain what that means in the post, basically boiling the experience down to a tech demo you can play with.
Like games, "demos" went from being made by individuals to being made by groups. The demoscene has created some amazing pieces over the years, and that is why we decided to reach out to the demoscene and see what they could do with the PlayStation 3 hardware. ...Previously demoscene productions were passive experiences. You ran it, sat back and watched. One of the things that Plastic wanted to do with Linger was to move in a new direction. Linger can be watched passively, but you won't get the whole experience that way. It is meant to be an experience that you explore through. Look beyond the frame of what you see. Search for new things, experiment with the SIXAXIS, and you might be surprised by what you find.
As a result, Linger In Shadows will have trophies like any other PSN title, but from all their "it's not a game (or is it?)" discussion, it sounds like while we shouldn't expect a deep gameplay experience, it should sure look pretty.

Heh, just Friday I was wondering how long until "demos" started showing up on the new hardware. It appears that they are still doing doing them on PC. http://www.scene.org Has a great collection of demos and stuff. Still looks cool, most of 'em, but not as cool as back in the day of no 3D hardware and S-L-O-W single core CPUs.
