WipEout HD Trouble? Maybe You Should Be More Unpopular.

Reports are hitting the internet of some users having troubles with WipEout HD, particularly with the game crashing and freezing while playing online. While no official word has come down, some amateur sleuthing seems to have narrowed down the cause of many people's problems: too many friends. It seems users with more than 50 PSN friends are having problems far more than users with fewer online buddies. It's not a universal problem, however, as some users with large numbers of friends are reporting no problems at all with the game. It's possible there are other factors at work.
If you run into the problem, you can use the XMB to disable networking on the PS3 and play the game offline. Alternately, you can drop some dead weight and get down to under 50 friends and see if that solves the problem. Otherwise you can wait for a patch, but as of right now none has been announced, although I'm sure at least a few folks at Sony and Studio Liverpool are cutting short their weekends to investigate the complaints.
My condolences for anyone suffering from the issue right now. Personally, I'm loving the game so far, and with my piddling friends roster I'll never have to worry about this issue. I don't think I even know 50 people total, let alone 50 PS3 owners!
