Video: Wii Music Dog Trailer Hurts My Soul
Okay, I was already wary of Wii Music, but I still held out a little hope, seeing how much I enjoyed Wii Fit and Wii Sports. I figured that Nintendo would spin a little more gold out of the idea. But after seeing this trailer, I don't think I ever want to play this game. Or whatever you call it. Because as I'm led to understand, you just play music. There's no scoring or goal or anything. It's just to have fun. Which is totally fine. Really. But this doesn't look like fun. It looks like the most annoying thing in the entire universe. Go on, press play and tell me I'm wrong. You can't, can you? Ah well, I guess even Nintendo has to have an off day at some point, right?

What?!? This looks like the best game ever created, it is so awesome that I think I may want two copies just in case I wear out the first one. On another note... what is Nintendo doing??? I wonder if you could have bear growls.... hmmm....
Don't you just love the PAW action you have to perform with the remote and nunchuck?!?!?!?
BEST GAME EVA
Wow, that made me smile. I definately wasn't going to get it before I saw that, but now I am considering it. So yeah, I'm telling you that you are wrong. The highlight was seeing the Mii in that costume dancing along.
Nintendo I love you~
KILL IT!! KILLL ITTTT!!!!
They say stupid is the new fun...
I... I have to admit the dog thing was kind of charming. I am vaguely reminded of the music creator from Mario Paint. I wonder if Wii Music will have a more robust version of that? If so, I think there may actually be some value to be had. If not... if you really just waggle for nothing... Well I wont' be so pleased. The problem I have is many reviewers will just bitch that it's not some awesome hardcore mega game and ignore it because it's a "Toy," just like Spore. not that I am, by ANY means, comparing the two products (though it's hard to compare a product which has yet to be released), I simply digress that I hold judgment until I see exactly what it has to offer. Mario Paint FTW.
My level of schadenfreude is going through the roof right now.
hmmm....I'd like to have the innocent school girl (she seems like she isn't very difficult to please).
I can only agree with Wootini on this one. Sorry guys saying it was "charming" or "cute" . . .
Regardless of the visuals there was one single thing that can't be glossed over with an adorable dog costume or a cute Japanese School Girl (TM)- who by the way DOES NOT COME WITH THE GAME- and that is the fact that whatever the hell that girl was creating with those obnoxious dog barks it certainly wasn't music.
Hell, even when they put a base rhythm beneath it there was no tune. There was just an annoying jumble of noises.
And to make matters worse- those barks aren't even NEW! Those are the EXACT SAME HORRIBLE "BARKS" my old Casio electric keyboard used back in 1992!
And quite frankly, if a professional commercial/demo can't even crap out something even remotely similar to music I get The Fear imagining what a normal player would produce.
Nintendo- I'm sick to DEATH of this. I loved the Wii. I loved the concept and the innovation- but this isn't innovation anymore. Where are the GAMES?! Ugh.
"Where are the GAMES?!"
They're right there. Apparently Nintendo has decided to focus on shovel wear. So eat it, or stop supporting them.
Wow, this must go for those wallmart'ians that flocked to their local megamart to get their copy of the christmas carol dogs CD. Nothing really says "wow, that's a good idea" then basing a game on whipping around a "nunchuck" so you get a dog to bark, yip and howl... or was that on last night's "rescue 911" on Animal Planet?
only because the name Nintendo is attached to this could it have people not wincing in abject distain.
i'm with you in the "WTF" category, Whoot.
As Nintendo cross from the mundane into the utterly embarrassing, are people really that shocked, they chose to kick every loyal Nintendo'ite squarely in the nuts.
At least the console doesn't break LIKE ALL 360's DO ALL THE TIME EVERY SINGLE SECOND TWICE etc etc.
Don't worry there MIGHT be a Zelda game in 3 years time, though it'll probably be a day to day Zelda game featuring a yipping fairy that makes him do step aerobics. And no swords, swords are too hardcore, he doesn't have a weapon only his shining self confidence.
Wow... the stupid is strong in this thread.
Apparently Nintendo is the only game company makeing games anymore for the Wii... no THQ (Deadly Creatures, De Blob) no Kanaomi (Castlivania, Electrobes 2) no SquareEnix (FF Crystal Chronicles, Chocobo MD), Atlas (Harvest Moon and Rune Factory), EA (every frik'n thing under the bloody sun), Sega (Samba De Amigo, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic and the Black Knight), ect. ect.
It's sad to here a bush of people whining that a company isn't exclusively stroking only their egos any more. grow up. If you actually believe that some how the next Zelda will be an lol exercise game or that the follow up to Mario Galaxy will be a #$%#ed-up mini game collection then you really need to get out more.
Nintendo's main line games have always taken awhile to get out. How long was it between Sunshine and Galaxy? Windwaker and Twilight Princess? In the meanwhile you'll ignore Wario, Animal Crossing and others for what ever reason and come up with cheap excuses as to how they don't count for even more cheap reasons.
And now that they've found a style of game that is faster to make, that they can release between their traditional games, everyone seems to have made leave of their senses and think that's all they do any more... sigh
I know Nintendo is catering to a different audiance, but I didn't know 3 year olds were part of the demographic.
That video reminded me of those toddler toys that make the annoying animal sounds when you press a button.
In response to Matt above:
No successful videogame console has ever relied upon rehashed franchises to gain popularity in the long run. It's a gross misrepresentation of the facts to pin Sony's past success on Final Fantasy and Metal Gear games. Or Microsoft's rise on Halo.
Nintendo and its 3rd parties need to release NEW games for the Wii. As in new characters, scenarios, gameplay. We need epic games like Chrono Trigger on the SNES and Super Mario Brothers 3 on the NES. Mechanically and technically Innovative games like Starfox and Mario Kart on the SNES.
I AM NOT SAYING WE NEED YET ANOHTER SEQUEL of the above games. I am showing the difference a few innovative games make for a console library. Not mini game compilations or rehashed games from past generations.
Honestly, I like Animal Crossing Wild World a lot for the DS. But my time and energy could be better spent doing something else rather than playing through the Wii version with probably 90% similar gameplay and content.
I don't care if it is "faster" for them to make these games. The lack of originality shows through.
While were on the topic of originality, when is Nintendo going to release a game that really makes use of the Wiimote? Wiggling a controller instead of pressing "A" is very insulting.
I'm sorry if I seem out of line, but I and other Wii owners were expecting a little...more.
To Akamaru,
And I noticed you you ignored the listed up-coming games. I get that the last E3 Nintendo didn't focus on traditional games from themselves. They launched with a 3rd party snowboarding game. And talked about an equal amount of other 3rd party traditional games. I get that WiiMusic is not going to float many "hardcore" gamers boats. Witch makes sense it's not narrowly focused straight at them.
What's getting me is that the "hardcore" seem to think that this all that Nintendo is making... ever... like no more Zelda, Mario, ect. They just released a flurry of traditional games, everyone seems to have a really short memory all of a sudden.
Nintendo games, new, old and otherwise, have always had long development cycles. They have also always favored the we're-not-going-to-talk-about-it-until-it's-really-close-to-release" method of revilement (Although Zelda: TP ignored that one.).
What's weird is that the third partys are releasing the "traditional' games on the system and often they've been completely original titles or original takes on existing franchises, but many ignore them or complain that their not a "real take" on a game. Zak and Wiki, ResEvil UmFiles, and even the up-coming re-working of DeadRising as well the original Spyborgs have all been ignored/bitched at for what ever reason.
The games are there. They are coming. Heck the end of September is going to be expensive for me with the Wii releases (Deadly Creatures and De Blob, both original titles, are the biggies for me.)
It's just strikes as weird that Nintendo is getting all this grief, while other companies doing much worse get a free pass. Have you looked at Ubisoft's upcoming release schedule? It is a joke.
and now we've gone wildly off topic.. ah well.
PS: Thanks' for acting like an adult in your reply Akamaru. This subject seems to turn way to many forum goers into screaming children. It's nice to have someone articulate the "why" without whining, insulting or wild hyperbole.
I love how that little dialog box about the different barks of the world had absolutely nothing to do with the game, since the dogs just sound like dogs anyway. The Japanese will take any excuse to cover your screen in text.
I was trying to make a joke about the "stupid is the new fun" thing... But I can't believe so many people is getting pissed off with this video.
I saw other Wii Music videos showcasing conventional instruments like a piano and music that sounded like music. I think this "dog band" thing is just some feature they added just because they could, to have something funny to show.
