Video: Banned Xbox 360 Ad

It would appear that this ad has been floating about the internets for a while now, but it was new to CVG and hey — it's new to me, too. I'm sure some of you have already seen this, but maybe some of you haven't. Apparently, this was a TV commercial for the Xbox 360, using the theme of "Jump In." You know, "Jump In" and play a game with a world full of people. But when you see the ad, you'll understand why Microsoft was skittish. Now, it seems this did air in the UK, where they're much more liberal about such things. Heck, they did this exact same thing on the utterly brilliant Spaced (finally out here on DVD!) in one of the series' most hilarious moments. (Actually, it was funnier on Spaced...)

I love the girl that throws the air-grenade.

Blatz said:

Since you already pointed out that this was done much better on Spaced I am just going to link to the video for any folks who may not have had the pleasure of seeing it.

So we'll display tons of news and television shows depicting explicit violence, but we will not show a commercial taking a very lighthearted and humorous take on playing guns?

I HATE THIS COUNTRY. So hypocritical.

SZK said:

Was this aired briefly in the US? I know I've actually seen this at some point on the television.

@Blatz: Thanks for the link - that was great. :)

That ad was funny.
I guess they pulled it cos you guys in the states have guns everywhere and people might get upset.

If they put it on on Australian TV
everyone would laugh.

I think I saw this ad several times on free tv here in switzerland. at least I know this one already - just not sure if it was on tv or online somewhere.

Poltergasm said:

We're too busy stabbing each other with whatever comes to hand to worry about guns in the UK.

ReignFury said:

@Poltergasm

I agree, if the advert had shown everyone pretending to stab each other I think more people would find it offensive, especially in light of all the recent media coverage of stabbings in London.

I could've sworn I'd seen this on TV before. Just once during Adult Swim or something. Maybe I was just surfing the Internet at the time and came across it months ago.

Ben said:

That ad was not banned in Germany. Here we got it in cinemas. I love it.

hoskie said:

Granted, I had seen the "Spaced" scene prior to this... but this ad just came across as 'cute' to me.

I hate this this kind of thing has to be banned.

Ridiculous.

Neo said:

I thought it was banned fully in the UK, but it had a significant run on SKY and Freeview before been canned for controversy reasons.

Apparantly people in a train station cannot tell the difference between hundreds of people saying bang in an advert and pretending to be grenaded and backpack wearing islamic terrorists.

Jesse James said:

I really liked the ad! It makes a lot of sense, and conveys a great message, not to mention that it's funny too!

I still don't get the controversy though?

Neo said:

There isn't any controversy, it's civil servants been offended on behalf of other people that get this kinda thing banned.

It's the same with Simpsons, on channel 4 I can understand editing it slightly, but they've started on Sky and it's infuriating, cowing down to parents too lazy to raise their own children.

Although that demographic is the majority parental demo in this country.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
