Portal Prelude Trailer Shows Pre-GLaDOS Hotness
Who didn't fall instantly in love with Portal? The game just oozed personality and humor while pushing you through some seriously mind-boggling puzzles. The only real complaint I've ever heard was that the game was just too short. Well, three fans have decided to help remedy that by creating the Portal Prelude mod, which adds an entirely new storyline containing 8 chapters, 19 new test chambers, 48 challenges, and 6 advanced maps. But this is more than just a map pack expansion, there's some real thought put into this story.
Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees, whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, and also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell...
While it might be disappointing to play though more Portal without GLaDOS soothing you with the promise of cake, a look at the trailer eases the worry. This mod looks HARD. As crazy as GLaDOS may be, it looks like she was going easy on us. The developers say the mod should be ready for download sometime at the end of September or early October. Personally, I can't wait to put my wall-hopping skills to the test once again.
Portal Prelude [Portal Prelude]

I saw this and found it very impressive, but at the same time it doesn't do what I want a portal mod to do: have a non-linear method of exploration/puzzle solving. I'm actually working making that dream a reality right now, though it's about 6 times bigger than the portal prelude project and I'm doing it all by myself so it's very time-consuming and starting to get a little boring. You can see a trailer with early footage of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYz8jDSk8_Q
And while some puzzles are hard you can also opt out and take "easy" paths which are filled with storytelling elements instead of hardcore puzzle elements. The mod branches out in 5 different paths which lead to multiple endings (I lost count on the total number of endings but it's between 4 and 7).
