I Will Take Down The Lich King! That's The Goal Right?

Wrath of the Lich King will sadly only be available on DVD, which means CD-ROM users will not be able to participate in the initial wave of World of Warcraft inspired craziness. If Burning Crusade was any indication, the new expansion should be available as a digital download a couple weeks after launch. CD-ROM-only WoW fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief, it'll be fine.
On the subject of World of Warcraft; thanks to weeks of prodding by some friends I am going out and purchasing the WoW Battle Chest and will begin a brand new quest this weekend. My goal is to have a fully leveled character by the launch of Lich King. Impossible? I think so. I also plan on chronicling my adventure with weekly updates. See Azeroth through my adorable eyes.
Now I already have my server set since I'll be playing with friends, but I am open to and pleading for any suggestions on how to quickly level, get the most out of my time, and any other tips or tricks you veterans are willing to share. I usually find myself losing interest after about level 25, but truly sticking with this game is a goal I am hoping to accomplish.
Oh and I'm playing as Horde, so what race/class should I roll?
Thanks guys!

Troll Rogue
Or if you want to be a pretty man, Blood Elf Warlock.
I have a fondness for hunters and druids, myself.
And if you've never rolled a Blood Elf, you really owe it to yourself to do so. Their lvl 1-20 questlines are amazing.
I personally adore the Blood Elf starting area because it is extremely fun to play in. As for class, my personal favorite is the warlock. Most people say lock are the cheap way of playing because they are overpowered but I think they are the most entertaining to play. Also for leveling purposes I would definitely go affliction with your talent points. As for the best way to level have one of your friends "recruit" you so you can get triple experience. Anyways if you have any questions let me know... I sadly have been playing since the game came out... I try not to spread that around though lol.
What is a CD-ROM?
Well the technical definition is a Compact Disc- Read Only Memory
anyone who has a problem with it not being on CD....needs to take the $$ they were spending on Lich King and buy themselves a DVD player...come on!!!
Okay, here's my two cents!
As far as races go, I love Blood Elves. But everyone is going to try and sell you each race being particularly "good" for one class or another. Play what 'ya like, screw what they say!
As for classes, I thoroughly enjoy Warlocks. They're very self-reliant, and if played properly, you should have no problems what-so-ever with leveling by yourself. I too suggest spec'ing for Affliction, but you'll do what you're most comfortable with. Get a lot of suggestions before you waste even ONE point. Another fun class is the Rogue. Being a sneaky little bastard is immensely fun. >:] Hunters are among the easiest to level, and they're quite fun as well. Basically, your classes are as follows:
Warrior: Tank. Slower leveling. Very resilient.
Paladin: Tank/Healer/DPS. Leveling varies. Very resilient.
Hunter: DPS. High-speed leveling. A little soft 'til 40. More hardy thereafter.
Shaman: DPS/Healer. Leveling varies. Also a bit soft 'til 40, then you get Mail armour and better survivability.
Rogue: DPS. Fast leveling. Armour is lower, but better dodge ratings usually mean less hits landed.
Druid: DPS/Tank/Healer. Leveling is slow at first, but CAN pick up at 20. Hard to explain armour, but it adjusts to your play style (DPS is like Rogue, Tank is like Warrior, Caster can be like a Rogue OR a Warrior).
Warlock: DPS. Fast leveling. Very squishy, but you can easily replenish health through Life Drain and Soul Siphon.
Mage: DPS. Fairly quick leveling. Very squishy, but crowd control helps keep you away from baddies.
Priest: Healer/DPS. Slower leveling. Squishy extremist, but you can use armour-boosting spells, immunity to damage spells, and Shadow Form.
So there 'ya go, my breakdown for that! As for leveling quickly, stay in the Blood Elf starting area through 20, then branch out and see what areas you like! The BElf starting area has tons of quests that are easy, fun, and fairly localized.
But anyway, there's all I have to say! It ain't much, but there it is! Just enjoy yourself.
You wanna speed level? Get one of your friends to send you a "recruit a friend" email, and play with them. As long as you play with the recruiter, you get triple XP up to 60, and for every 2 levels you earn, you can "gift" a level to a lower-level toon on the recruiter's account.
After 60, the XP dries up, but the improved Outlands design (compared to Old World WoW) and quest hubs make it a lot easier to grind up to 70 in a matter of weeks.
As for race/class, play what you like.
Personally, I love my troll priest as much as I've loved my tauren druid and my orc warlock. And I wouldn't have played any of them were it not for the great guild I am a member of.
Undead Warlock! My class, so I am rampantly biased. Nothing is more satisfying than being able to soul drain a particularly irritating foe and then add insult to injury by eating it's corpse.
As others have mentioned, if your going to be playing with friends, get them to recruit you with the "Recruit a Friend" programme. The XP bonus is utterly insane and you can blast through to level 60 in a fraction of the time it would normally take.
Thank you all for the advice, I'm currently downloading patches and then I'm diving in. I've decided to go with Blood Elves as my race, still undecided about class...
Be anything but a Pally, Pallys are epic fail
Don't listen to them! Orc Shaman!
Or if you want to be cliché, A blood elf (you know, just like everyone pfff...)
Just make sure you do the recruit-a-friend, thing! With the 300% experience bump you can totally be in the first expac content by the time Wrath comes out (and when Wrath comes out they'll speed up that content, it's very nice).
I suggest, horde or alliance, picking the new races. Draenei, alliance, have the best starting zone around, and the Blood Elf one is very fun too.
if ya happen to roll horde on proudmoore, drop a line to my blood elf Springle. He can help ya out if you're in need of assistance!
If you decide on Eredar you could always join WICKED- excellent horde gay guild with a fantastic group of people.
Also: blood elf rogue. Seriously rogues are disturbingly easy to level.
Long time reader first time poster :)
I'm sure you're well into your choice and leveling by now but I must strongly suggest picking the play style that fits you the best. Even though melee tends to level a little faster I just cannot break away from playing casters.
My first 70 was a druid. Great mix of everything and the best thing about leveling is Healing yourself. (Save money on bandages!). Keep a backup set for healing if that is not your main spec because you'll still be a very viable healer until the later part of the game.
Ultimately you'll fall into your own but I must say I find druids to be one of the better classes to level (after 30).
if you ever have questions find me on Kul Tiras as "Pakwa" [tauren, currently balance spec]
Who, in 2008, has a computer capable of running modern games but not a DVD drive? releasing CD versions of new PC games is a waste of time.
