Video: Zero Punctuation - Prince Of Persia Retrospective

I had to bring this particular Zero Punctuation to peoples attention because it pretty much sums up all my feelings on what happened to the Prince of Persia series in the last console generation. I still remember the feeling of dread I got when I loaded the demo and Godsmack started playing.

Hah! Love it.

Yeah, the first of the remakes was cool because it was interesting enough and just difficult enough that I could wonder where the story was going and actually beat it.

I still haven't played the others just because it became all about the "hardcore" experience, like I somehow had to be "hardcore" to play it. Real marketing turnoff.

Anyone know if it was actually good?

The Sands of Time games were not remakes. :P

I loved the first one and despised the second one. Warrior Within was total crap. I actually blame it for keeping me from replaying the games again. It feels wrong to play the first and third games again without playing the second one, and the second one was awful.

The Two Thrones was great, though. Totally fixed the stupidity of Warrior Within. I almost didn't buy it because of how terrible Warrior Within was (as I type this I realize words like "terrible" don't even begin to cover my hatred of that game) but I did for completion's sake and I certainly didn't regret it.

I guess I'm in the minority - I thought the first one was boring, but kind of enjoyed Warrior Within. And of course, it's always so popular for people to bash on Warrior Within because of the change in tone, but I enjoyed the darker feel. Anyway, these videos are really annoying - the narrator needs to stop and take a breath, I can barely understand what he's saying sometimes.

I find it odd that he enjoyed the princess character in SoT. She (along with MGS' Meryl and Rose) ranks on my personal list of most obnoxious female characters ever. During SoT she would hit me with arrows often, would attract enemies to weird navigational choking points (ex. long elevator sequence of forever), and her semi-flirty banter with the prince was forced at best. I'm just glad that the excelled in just abut every other aspect.

I picked up the PC version of Warrior Within for six bucks at Big Lots. The whole thing was so unintuitive and frustrating that it made me want to run over the box and the disks with my car.

Ahhh... gold old Yahtzee... i feel it's like yesterday when he was just on youtube... Now, his own show, his own theme song and being quoted in actual real life magazine as "a sarcastic and cruel critics who reveals the deeper feelings on certain video games". How he grown. Makes me feel do proud for him!
And I agree with most points. The hole "emo" thing and the "more flesh then a surgeon convention" female characters were a let down but throughoutly, you can still be satisfy with the series so far... If you skip "prince of persia 3d" of course.
Oh and StFrancisFolly, you are very weird... i'll have my pudding pubic hair free i thank you.

PoP:SoT (abbreviation overload?)was awesome, great story, good combat with the time powers being an inovative new feature.

PoP2:WW, still awesome, I actually LIKED the darker tone, as well as the Godsmack soundtrack. It was better than the first. Apart from the annoying bits where you had to run away from the dahaka (sp?)

PoP3:TTT was HORRIBLE. The story was still good, but the combat had taken a nose dive into the hell of quick time events. Now, the occasional QTE is ok, but QTEs that are absolutely neccessary otherwise you die are just stupid and irritating, especially on bosses. The last fight with the vazier was so annoying that I quit playing the game for about 3 months before eventually going back to finish it.

Also, although the dark prince was a very interesting new addition, the fact that his health rapidly depleted while in that form took away any and all fun that you could have had with the character. Instead of hanging around kicking enemy ass with your newly aquired, shiny, serated edge, whip thingy... you find yourself running away like a pussy trying desperately not to get hit along the way...... and did we really need a chariot race?

The story was still awesome though, and when i eventually could be bothered to finish the damn thing the way the ending went full circle all the way back to the beginning was awesome.

I look forward to the movie, though I'm not expecting much since movies based on video games never quite seem to work, at least we'll get to stare at a half naked Jake Gyllenhaal
