Karateka Redux!

karateka_screen.jpg

So you know how Prince of Persia was reimagined for the current generation of consoles? Well, that series creator, Jordan Mechner, announced at a Comic-Con panel that he's now working on modernizing the very first videogame he ever developed, Karateka!

"There actually is a plan to bring back Karateka," the designer said. "It's a project I'm going to be involved in. I can safely say it's not going to be in the way you expect."

Karateka clearly set the stage for 1989's Prince of Persia, even though it was released five years earlier. Man, I remember playing it on my Commodore 64! I know I'm dating myself, but come on! This has the potential to be relatively cool. Karateka had pretty realistic animation for the time, so updating it to the current consoles' technology should make it even more awesome!

This would be cool, if done right. The question is - just a redo of the graphics, or something new a la Prince of Persia?

I have to admit - I made it to the end *twice* with that Princess killing me before I figured it out.

I think that ending is why I would want to see another Karateka. That and the whole upside down thing. That was awesome.
