E3 '08: New Tech From Nyko

I'm always glad to spend some time with Nyko at E3 - not only did they help us get our E3 invites last year, which set us up in the ESA computers to be automatically invited this year, but they do a great job of keeping up with the game publishers at each E3 event - and also do their level best to help dispel some of the usually-needless stigma borne by third party peripherals.
This year Nyko showed me one PS3 peripheral that goes a long way to eliminating the gap between PS3 SKUs - the Nyko PS3 Media Hub gives your PS3 two additional USB ports (three USB ports total) as well as a card reader for SD cards and Memory Sticks. For $19.99 you can upgrade your 40GB PS3 and play Rock Band without a USB extender, as well as have easy access to your PSP's Memory Stick.
Nyko's also bringing out the latest series of Intercoolers, the Intercooler TS series for Xbox 360 and PS3. And even while Nyko's own tests proved that the Intercoolers that drew their power directly from the 360 or PS3 weren't capable of drawing enough power to contribute to any internal overheating shenanigans, the new Intercooler TS series use external power - whether you're a skeptic or just plain demanding (like me).
The TS series also sports variable fan speed control, so you can adjust the noise level on the fly if you switch from gaming to, say, a DVD or Blu-ray movie with a lower sound threshold. There's also the new TempSmart feature for both Intercoolers that automatically starts the fans spinning when the ambient temperature rises by a set amount - it doesn't matter whether you're playing in an igloo or a furnace, the TempSmart technology will switch your fans on when the temperature rises.
We'll see these Intercooler TS units in September, with a suggested price of $34.99 for the PS3 and $24.99 for the 360.
