Barcelona Wants To Ban Game... And It's Not GTA!

wheelman.jpg

So get this... The Councillor for Education in Barcelona City Hall has called for a judicial report to see whether she can take legal action to stop the sale of a violent videogame. There are violent shootouts and car chases throughout the city as the cops clash with the criminal underworld. Yeah, but it's not Grand Theft Auto. See, you were thinking that sounds like GTA. And every conservative with too much time on their hands wants to ban GTA. It's like, a global phenomenon, right? Wrong.

No, this time, the game in question is Midway's Wheelman, which I hadn't even heard of until I stumbled across this news story. It stars Vin Diesel, who appears in the game as the lead character, an undercover agent who infiltrates the Barcelona underworld to take it down. The game is due out for the PS3 and 360 in Fall of 2008, and Vin Diesel is also set to star in a film, which is said to be a sequel to the game. But apparently, the City Hall doesn't believe that the game depicts a positive image of Barcelona and is "against the values which characterise the city." Can you imagine if Bloomberg had tried to ban GTAIV from New York City? The mind boggles.
