Rumorama: PS3 2.4 To Bring In-Game XMB & Trophies

The rumors have been flying this week, but PlayStation Universe seems to have confirmed what everyone's been saying: that two of the PS3's most anticipated features - in-game XMB access and Trophies, which are the PS3's answer to Achievements - will be arriving with the PS3 2.4 firmware update in June.
In-game XMB access will not only look totally badass, it will bring in-game soundtrack fun to legions of PS3 owners who are deeply jealous of their 360-owning boyfriend's ability to listen to The New Pornographers while playing Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I speak from acutely painful personal experience.
In-game XMB access isn't expected to be compatible with all PS3 titles, however, and custom soundtracking doesn't exist on older development tools, so existing games will have to be patched in order to allow custom soundtracks. (You hear me, Activision/Raven?)
Trophies, which we've seen before in some Home demonstrations, will up the Achievement ante by having virtual presences in the Home world. We'll all be keeping our eyes on this one very closely to see how it pans out - with such an obvious comparison to Xbox Live's Achievements, Sony has to step pretty carefully.

Hooray for the PS3 getting a rumor on a feature I expected on day one!
In all seriousness though, good on Sony for getting around to this important feature. Although I'm not holding my breath for updates to old-ish third party games (Sorry Tiny), I bet we'll see some Sony published titles get custom soundtracks.
I would be jealous alone of someone having a boyfriend that likes the New Pornographers.
the thing i find funny is that microsoft is just getting what they deserve..i mean come on they stole all of apples ideas..why cant someone steal there's..and hopefully make it better!
I remember when xbox first came out i was like those noobs stole all of the nintendos buttons(a,b,x,y,l,r). Of course sony stole l,r but they actually came out with l2 and r2 which xbox 360 soon stole with its bumper trigger things. Good thing xbox has like 2 good innovative online features because everything else is just copied from the more experienced systems. Sorry im just mad at how xbox is so overrated in north america lol
