I'm having fun just like when i first tried it out at E4! I'd have more fun when playing against people from here [they wont be mentioned for reasons]! Sure the lag is horrible but in total conclusion: FUN TIMES!

Someone buy me a Wii. Then buy me SSBB. Then we'll talk.

My boyfriend and I have already beaten story mode and we just got it on Sunday! We absolutely adore the game. The characters are nicely balanced and they've fixed many issues that irked me in Melee. With the ridiculous amount of modes and online support, I'd say it's very deserving of the high praise it is getting.

King Dedede is a PIMP. This is all you need to know on the subject.

I love it, but I really don't like the subspace emissary. Everything else is borderline perfect though.

I picked this gem up when it launched at midnight, and the boyfriend and I have thoroughly enjoyed it thus far. The Subspace Emissary (The story mode) was a VERY meaty chunk of gaming pleasure; about 8 hours. We finished that up already, and now we're working our way through getting all of the music and stages unlocked.

With over 25 hours clocked in (I've been on my deathbed with the flu, so Brawl has been the only thing I've done since Sunday, heh..), we STILL haven't even scratched the surface. This game is fantastic. DEFINITELY worth the money.

Go buy Brawl. Now.

I'm slowly enjoying it.
Never been a fan of the series, although collect all the Nintendo fan service is something that I found appealing.

Although it's a bland platformer. There moments where you'll waste 4 lives trying to leap in small gap that Kirby or Mario games have handled better. There are on rail camera sequences that let you walk ahead or behind the camera but there is no proper way to getting back the center without dying in a massive purple and pink explosion of doom.

Analog stick isn't ideal for controlling a character. Kirby will easly waste all his jumps if your slightly pressing up. The only advantage the gamecube controller that everyone fanboy's been praising is the fact that there is an easy mode with the right analog stick. You could easily get by with a normal wii controller, it's not as a big of a deal as fanboys made it out to be. In fact in a room full of different people they all enjoyed each different controller for various reasons.

It's not the best fighting game ever made, it's a fun game. It's pretty much a poor comparison to really compare it to a fighting game, more like a platformer party game, compared to lets say recently Bully which has a very simple fighting mechanic. But still that grows and grows and I'm more then happy to just run into the Jock section of the school and battle them for hours on end. And a lot of that is because it's precise and responsive control system, which isn't the case here.

That's me, trying to be pretty cruel to the game, but I'm slowly enjoying it. There is something in there that some might enjoy, but it's by no means the best game ever made as much as these niche audience hyped it out to be. There is enough variety in here, but you have to dig for a while to find someone you would love.

Here's a tip, play as Kirby, fly all the way to the top of the screen, let everyone fight into a dust cloud of limbs and items for a while then just DROP as a metric ton of Pain.

Awesome game, but a few serious complaints.

No Japanese language mode? Why not? The GameCube version had it? Why remove a feature that was there to begin with!?!? I want to hear Lucario and Pit's cute girly voices and howls, not these creepy dub overs!

Also, why so many limitations on the stage creator? This feature could have been so much more awesome if a little more effort was put into it. =(

And lastly, no download content support? They've already said they won't be releasing any new characters or stages for download in the future. How sad is this? Very sad. Very very sad.

It seems like some of these things were just oversights or laziness. They seemed to put a ton of time into some areas but overlook others entirely.

And lastly, this goes for many Wii titles and not just SSBB - cut it out with the stupid friend codes already! I was rankings and endless internet freedom. Get with the picture, Nintendo!

Not that I don't love the game. I do! But some things need to be mentioned.

So yeah, I haven't played it yet considering us Europeans are second class citizens in the World (if we ignore the Aussies). So I'll keep this short and sweet.

The game was awesome, it has all you would want in a SB game. Lots of characters to chose from, lots of awesome graphics with awesome sound and awesome online play. Did I mention it was pretty damn awesome?

So, on a scale from 1 to 10, it's Awesome!

Besides the unoriginality of the Starfox trio and the changing of the Ganondorf model (I liked the previous one; he was packing *horny*), I feel that all the other facets were well-made. The SSE mode would have been insufferably repetitive if I weren't playing with my brother.

So far, my favorite new characters are the Pokemon Trainer (huge versatility), Snake (unique playstyle, incredibly fine ass), Dedede (I just like him), and Wario (took some time to get used to him, but he becomes pretty powerful when played well).

I'm still a Zelda junkie, though; this woman hits hard and has a little bit of everything to succeed.

YNS said:

Overall, the game is fantastic. Not much bad I can say about it, except for a few little personal dislikes (like the white backgrounds).

To me, it just really feels like Melee, but improved. Which isn't a bad thing. I was just expecting some more extreme changes.

All the new characters are great (except one, grr), and all the originals seem much more perfected. If I had to give this game a score, I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.

I beat story mode last night with my roommate. I really enjoyed story mode, it was very cute and and had a very shonen feel to it. Especially the ending. The last area before the final boss though was a bit up and down. At one point I wanted to die, towards the end though I got more excited doing trying to reach the last boss.

VS Mode is always fun and this time it's even more customizable then in previous installments. Hours and hours of fun to be had here if you got friends.

Online looks great so far but is a lag fest as of right now. I'm not sure if it's my internet or simply Nintendo. Other people though seem to be getting lag, so maybe Nintendo needs more servers or are having some problems. Online LOOKS like it'll be fun.

My main draw to the game sadly is unlocking everything. I shall be busy for a very long time to come doing this. I will have every trophy god damn it!

All in all I give it 9.5 out of 10. 10 if I can ever get lag free online >_

Eshto said:

Only complaint is the lag time of the online brawls. Anyone live in Madison, Wisconsin? I hear the closer you are the faster it can go.

MuddBstrd said:

I'm a fan. I tried out the 'With Anyone' online brawls last night. It can suck at first as the server tries to find competitors for you, but if they stick around after the fight for more, then the time between fights is much less.

My one complain is the Subspace Emissary's platforming levels. I would have been much, much happier if they had reduced it to a series of brawls with cutscenes in between. Fighting controls + platforming = Crap. I will say, however, that the cutscenes are priceless.

However, does anyone else think The Subspace Emissary borrows a lot from Kingdom Hearts?

Eshto said:

Yes, the designs of the Emissary creatures and bosses are very reminiscent of KH.

Raynes said:

I'm not a fan of fighting games and I've been playing this one for several hours a day. Aside from that any game that lets you fight Pikachu against Ridley is awesome by default.

I haven't played any of the Smash Bros. games, so it's taking me a while to warm up to this one. I love that they re-introduced Pit after all these years, and so I hope that that means a reboot to the Kid Icarus franchise.

I certainly did a lot of swearing as my non-gamer boyfriend was kicking the be-fricking-jeebus out of my seasoned veteran gaymer ass.

So yeah, kinda meh so far, warming up to it, and certainly less frustrating than losing in Rock Band to that damned Molly Hatchet song "Flirtin' with Disaster" on hard level over and over and over and over and over and over and ...

Mikemgmve said:

Loving it so far!! I really enjoy the subspace mode, and look forward to unlocking all the characters, stages, etc, etc, etc...

So far, the only issue is the online lag. Perhaps it's Nintendo's servers, perhaps it's the other users.. I played it with a friend, just the two of us, and it was smooth and fluid. I played it with 'anyone' - two matches of four, and one of just 2, and the lag was constant, and frustrating.

karsh said:

From what little I've played of it since I picked it up on Sunday, it's awesome. I just wish I had the free time to actually play it now!

As someone who has never understood the draw of the Smash Bros franchise, I am trying to give SSBB a chance.

So far, I have experienced no real lag problems while playing a match online. The wait in the lobby can seem like days while connecting with three other players though.

It's hard to take the game as a serious fighter when it's just a button-mashing & item-grabbing fest. I mean, that's great if that's what you are into. To me, it kinda gets a little repetitive (and uninspired) after a few games. I just prefer my fighters to have a bit of technique instead of relying all on gimmicks.

Sorry, I guess that makes me sound snobby...

I'm like you. I don't like all the randomness from overpowered items and random occurences. Solution? Play on the stages you like and TURN OFF ITEMS. My roommate likes all the craziness, so when I play with him we compromise by turning down the item frequency and turning off a few of the more ridiculous items (heart container, etc.)

Pewp said:

I unlocked Snake so I'm done playing. Yes! I beat the game!

_Acedian_ said:

Very impressed so far. Nintendo has faithfully lived up it to its name. Online may make a difference but by the single player alone I am beyond happy ^_^

Detritus said:

I've been sneaking in games in the morning before work. I can assure everyone the lag experienced and slow connect times only happen at peak hours, so that is only Nintendo's servers end to be upgraded and not a fault in the game.

I think IGN's score of 9.5/10 is correct. I think the online here has taken a couple of steps back from Mario Striker's Charged (no tournaments or rankings!?) but is still incredible.

and im sad that pikachu's side-B attack got taken down a bit, and fox doesnt go "FIYAAAAAAA" anymore. but whatever.

I think it'd be awesome if my Wii weren't one of the "lucky" ones that has freezing problems, but aside from that I like it a lot. The level editor is loads of fun (and I've created maps that will have you swearing like a sailor, to be sure).
Plus, Fox has a nice butt in this one >_>

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
