No Blu-ray For Xbox 360
A press release about the state of the Xbox 360 in February starts off by reminding that they're still in a "supply constrained situation" as an explanation for the sales numbers and promises that they're working on the situation so there will be plenty of consoles in stores in time for the release of GTAIV. Then they go on to list all the ways that the 360 is awesome. But it was this bit at the very end that I found intriguing:
p.s. In case you were wondering, Microsoft is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Disc Association regarding integrating Blu-ray in to the Xbox 360 experience. Games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles and we remain focused on providing the largest and best library of blockbuster games available.
Wow. That has to make the poor HD-DVD add-on drive feel so useless and insignificant (well, more so than it already does!). But I never really expected Microsoft to seriously consider bringing Blu-ray to the 360. Bad enough HD-DVD lost the format war... no sense in giving Sony an even more satisfying victory.
