Wii Outsells PS3 4-to-1, Still Gaining Momentum In Japan

The Wii is seriously kicking some arse over there in Japan by outselling the PlayStation 3 nearly 4-to-1. That's hot stuff. The Wii's software has also been dominating the sales charts with games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl selling 1.33 million copies in the month of January. Here are some more numbers and figures for you to chew on:
Nintendo sold 331,627 units of the Wii in the four weeks to February 24, compared with 89,131 units of the PS3, Enterbrain said on Thursday. The Wii's lead on the PS3 appears to be widening: In January, Nintendo's game console outsold Sony's by almost 3-to-1.
I guess the PS3 sales figures aren't too bad when compared to the Xbox 360's sale of 14,079 units. Man, they really have to do something over there to get their ball rolling.

Every time I see a commercial for a game available on the 360 and Windows, I worry a little. The XNA / DirectX / Live! orgy of incest is working like a charm. At least as long as the 360 continues to fail in Japan, there's an entire island nation ecosystem balancing out complete Microsoft platform dominance, but I still fear the day the shelves are full of nothing but EA Franchise Part XVI, Expansion Pack 9 for Microsoft System X. In short, I disagree that Microsoft needs to do something to catch up in Japan. It's good for the games that they're in last place somewhere.
