PS3 Lost Planet Multiplayer Impressions

LostPlanetPS3.jpg

Recently the Lost Planet servers were back in business after some network issues were patched up. I had never played Lost Planet for the 360, so this was new experience. After logging into the network, I started the demo and was thrown into the Multiplayer lobby.

From there I had two choices, Quick Match, or Create Room. The easiest thing to pick first is Quick Match to understand how the lobby system works. The rooms are listed with available slots, usually 8 players, and if it's Team Deathmatch, or the free-for-all Elimination. Pick a room, and hope it fills up so the match starts.

The matches are interesting, balancing the ground combat with the mechs. You are fighting the other team by trying to claim areas of land, and defending the main post of each area, as you spread out and conquer the map. One of the best parts of the game is the grappling hook mechanism. When running on the ground, you can feel the snow impeding every step, but with a press of a button, you are scaling buildings and zipping across the snow.

Once you grab a mech the overwhelming feeling of destructive power is burdened by an even slower means of locomotion than on foot. It's fun, but dangerous. Once in the mech, you need to be sweeping the horizon and destroy everything in your sights and radar.

Had a blast with the Lost Planet Multiplayer demo, the connection was nice and tight, and the controls were fun. I would recommend a download to anyone looking for some solid online action.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
