Game Critics: GOTY Award Winners Announced

The Game Critics group has released their list of the top ten games of 2007. The group is comprised of gaming journalism luminaries such as Kotaku's Brian Crecente, 1UP's Sam Kennedy and EGM's Dan "Shoe" Hsu who all turned in their votes for the year's best games. While the list doesn't contain any real surprises, it's still interesting to see what the big boys think. The list is as follows:
Top 10 Games of 2007:
- BioShock
- The Orange Box
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Rock Band
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Halo 3
- Mass Effect
- God of War II
- Assassin's Creed
- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
It's interesting to note that almost every game on the list came out in the latter half of 2007, mostly concentrated in the fourth quarter. It's nice to see God of War II getting some love as basically the only "last gen" game on the list. I was also pleased to see Uncharted: Drake's Fortune up there as in may people's opinions (including many of us here in the Castle), it was one of the most overlooked games of last year.
You can see the list of winners with explanations of each by the attending judges on the Game Critics Awards website.

I as well was pleased to see Uncharted on the list. It was honestly the high light of the PS3 this year.
The top three are First-Person Shooters, the only Japanese-developed game on the list is Mario, and the only RPG is Mass Effect. Yeah, their opinion doesn't count for much in my book.
