EA Announces Battlefield Heroes: Love Stubble And Square Jaws

As noted in the title, I like stubble and square jaws. Who doesn't? EA Announced Battlefield Heroes, a First Person Shooter slated for Spring of 2008. We know is that it will be free, it's by EA (the team behind Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 most specifically), and that It gives the impression that it looks a LOT like Team Fortress II.
Ben Cousins (Senior Producer at EA DICE) stated:
We put a different twist on this Battlefield game going with the cartoon-style graphics and gameplay... There's something here for all types of players -- be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers. With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games.
It's free to play so I'm not going to ream on them for the apparent style similarities. Hey, I liked the way TF2 looked anyway, so who can blame them for jumping on the cartoon bandwagon. Be prepared to see power-play micro-transaction and a lot of ads, however people. Instead of paying for the game, you're going to be buying guns and uniforms. So long as they maintain an "upgrade free" zone for players on a budget this could work very well for EA.
Be sure to check out the Battlefield Heroes webpage .

I love the "Screenshot" section which shows a picture of this on the cover of Games For Windows Magazine. Directly below Sgt. Squarejaw is a screen of the Heavy from TF2.
As a long time fan of the Battlefield Series (even Vietnam and 2142!) and TF2 I'm going to keep an open mind.
