Dive Into Endless Ocean

I just got an E-mail from Nintendo advertising their upcoming title Endless Ocean, but of course, I already intended to buy it. Still, it was helpful that they let me know the release date was 1/23/08, since I'd heard it was the 21st. I've really been looking forward to this title since it was announced, and I think it'll sell pretty well to the casual Wii gamers.
I love the idea of exploring undersea vistas, and have ever since playing Aquanaut's Holiday on my PS1. Remember that one? Sure, the graphics were crap by today's standards, but at the time, who cared? I just loved floating around and looking at the sunken ships, coral reefs and various aquatic creatures. Then Everblue 2 came around for the PS2 and offered better graphics and actual treasure hunting. But shark attacks and limited air supply put restrictions on the undersea exploring. Not so with Endless Ocean, which is meant to be a relaxing underwater experience. No danger, and unlimited air. You can also sit on the deck of your boat and watch the sea or view an aquarium of the fish you've collected that doubles as a tranquil screensaver.
The screenshots I've seen look terrific, and the New-Agey music from Hayley Westenra is appropriately soothing (though you have the option to put your own MP3s on an SD card and create a custom soundtrack if you'd rather go scuba diving to Girls Aloud). I'm a little wary of the third-person perspective, since I've always found first-person to be much more immersive, and in a game like this, immersion is crucial. And I don't quite get how the WiFi is going to work, because I can't imagine it'll really be that much fun to go diving with a buddy when all you can do is shoot off text commands via the D-pad. Well, we'll just have to see.
This game might not be for everyone, mostly because it's only barely a game, but I'm really psyched for it, and can't wait until the 23rd. I could really use the stress relief, and I can't afford an actual trip to the Caribbean. Oh, hey, if you do pick it up, maybe we can go diving together!

I think I'll get this. It looks nice, and it'll be nice to be able to play with Dolphins that don't try to kill you like in the Simpsons game, heh.
Yeah, not sure how Wi-Fi is going to work, can't imagine that there'd be much you could do with other people other then swim all over the place.
It's quite nice game, have it here in Europe already. Which is odd i assumed that US got games then we did :S
Its very relaxing to play, very nicely graphics and you get to molest fish till they give you information.
Well, poke and rub them but you could always take it out of context.
Mr Wootini, you can switch to First-Person by tapping the + button while swimming.
Wicked game too, and very pretty! :-)
Mp3 soundtack... The KLF's 'Chill Out' cd.
I'm getting this the day it comes out. It just looks beautiful.
Oh i was overjoyed when i heard this was coming out. I must have built a reef in Aquanauts holiday that took up the entire area. I could spend hours in this. Lets dive!
what a treat! zoop!
i've been playing this for a couple nights now. it's great and relaxing. i recommend it to those with an open mind and who don't always need crazy action to satisfy them.
i'm so proud of some of my photos too! too bad you cannot share them.
