CES 2008: Xbox 360 Hosts BT Vision In UK

Microsoft has announced that content from ABC, Disney and MGM would soon be available on the Xbox LIVE marketplace, but our UK readers might be interested to know that they also revealed that they'll be teaming up with British Telecommunications to offer their BT Vision service via the console. This would give UK 360 owners the opportunity to download on-demand films and sports content (read: football matches — which gives me the perfect excuse to use a photo of a hot footballer with this article).
However, there are a couple of hurdles. Users will first have to subscribe to a one-year contract with BT broadband, and because the 360 is not a set-top box (at least not yet), it won't have access to the Freeview content or DVR abilities of the actual BT Vision set-top box. The Xbox can only stream the video, as it doesn't have a large enough hard drive to make downloading the content practical.
Seems to me that if BT really wants to make the 360 a viable platform for their content, they need to make a separate contract that's a whole lot cheaper than the one for the actual BT Vision set-top box. You're losing out on functionality, and there's also the whole issue of streaming content getting potentially glitchy at times. Nobody wants that. Or do they? How about it, UK readers? Anyone interested?
