Casual Gaming With Alexey Pajitnov

While sipping coffee over a chocolate chip waffle and a healthy side of bacon at my local Waffle House, I found an insightful interview with Alexey Pajitnov which Gamasutra conducted during the GameCity 2007 entertainment festival last October in Nottingham, England. The man who brought Tetris into the world spoke about the state of the casual games market, the possibility of working with Microsoft once again and the perception in America that he got screwed out of his Tetris rights and cash. When it was pointed out to him that he seemed to harbor no resentments over the way events unfolded, he responds with an insight that I greatly admire.

"Yes, because first of all, I did what I wanted: the game became an event, and that was the most important thing. Second, in ten years the rights came back to me. It was not awfully great money, but it's still OK, and I'm very happy with what I'm still getting. So, again, I might have been several million richer, but would I have been several million happier? I'm not sure. I'm not sure about that." -- Alexey Pajitnov

Read the full, four page interview with the legendary game designer at Gamasutra. Also, take the time to check out the Dwice demo, an unusual avalanche themed puzzler that Pajitnov created that released in 2006, between Hexic HD and Hexic 2.
