XBox Live Films Go European

Here in the good ol' US of A, we've been downloading movies via Xbox Live for ages (well, I haven't, because that's what Netflix is for), but Microsoft has annouced that beginning December 11, Xbox 360 owners in England, France and Germany will be able to rent movies by downloading them from XBox Live. This service will be the first of its kind in Europe.
As in the US, the films will come in both standard (3 euros) and high-def (4.50 euros) versions. Initially, though, all the flicks will be from Warner Bros., due to an exclusive content deal. But they're promising 40 more movies available by the end of December. Apparently, the reason for the delay in offering movie downloads in Europe is due to some complex licensing issues for the various regions. Who knew, right?
"We want to give consumers the entertainment they want, in the format they want, when they want it and at an affordable price," said Robin Truchy, European director of Xbox Live. "We are already offering HD games, HD music videos and the option to enjoy HD DVD format films, now we are offering HD movies to download and rent as well."
So next week, all you Brits can stop talking in your hot accents and download yourself some 300, The Matrix or... um... TMNT? Yeah, maybe not that last one.

Does anyone know when this is supposed to launch in Canada? It's so lame we don't have this service yet.
@adempton: Yes, we're getting it too in Canada!

"It goes live at 12:01a.m. PST on December 11th"
Hey, TMNT was really damn good (and this is coming from someone that's been a fan of the Turtles since they were a B&W underground comic in the mid 80s).
Ah, Alphaville...my favorite Godard film....
sorry, what was the article about?
3 and 4.5 Euros? Wow. That's like 25 and 50 cents in U.S. dollars.
