Video: First Street Fighter IV Gameplay
I have fond memories of playing Street Fighter II': Champion Edition at the 7-11 before and after high school while all the cool kids were behind it smoking. Aside from the fact that I religiously fought with Chun-Li, I was quite proud of my small town skills. As amazing as the Street Fighter II series is, Street Fighter 3 never quite matched it's popularity and the franchise slowly took a back seat to newer fighters that boasted three dimensions or fatalities. Unfortunately, at least in my mind, the Street Fighter series has stayed in the backseat for many years, save for a disappointing excursion on Xbox Live Arcade this past summer.
Ryu and Ken square off in these pair of Street Fighter IV gameplay videos (the second video is after the break). With expectations very high for this title, there is a lot of pressure to get it just right. Have they? I won't know for sure until I play with Crazy Legs... er, Chun-Li.

My only main concern is Chun-Li and her lightning kick. They can either get it right or make it absolutely pointless by pushing away the enemy on the first kick.
This is Street Fighter, there is no point argueing whether it is an acceptable entry into the series unless you play it. Gameplay looks decent, I'm pegging it for release Q1 2010...
Guh...the videos are doing nothing to quell my concerns that the gameplay will be lacking. It looks sluggish, especially compared to 3rd Strike.
And Ryu's face is beyond hideous, wha the hell happened?
Wow, those characters are fugly. I guess I don't really see the appeal of Street Fighter when there's Soul Calibur and such out there...
Just looks like a remake of SFII but with 3D characters.
Well, when done right (IE 2-D) Street Fighter is still the best fighting game series around, especially 3rd Strike. I always found Soul Calibur to be vastly, vastly overrated.
