Master Chief Frags Shrek

I love how the mainstream media continues to be surprised that videogames are as successful as they are. Now, a lot has been said about game releases outperforming movies at the box office, but that's because as pricey as movie tickets are, they're still not $50-60 a pop. Yet. But it turns out that on its first day on shelves, Halo 3 is estimated to have sold 2.5 million copies, which is more than Shrek The Third did on its first day. Of course, one is the third in a series that has refined and perfected itself over the years while the other is the third in a series that was running out of steam before the second one got past the script stage. So there's that. But the people in the industry are still amazed that people continue to play these electronic gaming thingies.
Mia Snyder, WaxWorks VideoWorks game buyer, adds, “It’s just something different. The games are also mainstream. I’ve had grandparents over 40 telling me they want a Wii. Then there’s my mom who personally has bought more videogames this year than she has in her lifetime. And under my tree, it will be more games than DVD.”
Who knew, right? Oh, yeah, that's right, we did.
