Kristin Kreuk Is Chun-Li

Smallville's Kristin Kreuk is set to play the central character, Chun-Li, in the upcoming Street Fighter film adaptation. The film is under the command of director Andrzej Bartkowiak. In case you don't know what's going on with the story, here it is:
The live-action feature based on Capcom's video game focuses on female fighter Chun-Li and her journey for justice. This marks the second time a film has been adapted from the famed gaming series, the first was the Jean Claude Van Damme-led 1994 effort in which Ming Na played the role of Chun-Li.
Why did they have to remind us of that movie!? More importantly, why did that have to be Raul Julia's last film? The world may never know. There is nothing more to report. Any opinions?

She's cute but a French/Native Candian mix playing Chinese? Didn't that go out with Charlie Chan?
For a movie based on my favorite video game character of all time...heck..favorite character in general, this better be good.
Shouldn't they have maybe gotten someone...I dunno, Chinese to play her?
Not that I have any hope for this to be good in the first place, but still...
Would an asian-type actrice be less bankable? I'm wondering regarding the fact Hollywood prefers to remake asian movies rather than showing the originals to the white America.
You know. . . they should get someone Chinese to play her but that's not my concern. . . Why her?! She can't act! I mean grant it and all that she's very pretty but, to me, she's so bland.
Yes androide, an asian star would be less bankable. Unless they are Jackie Chan or Chow Yun-Fat. But white america and Hollywood is no different than anywhere else in the world. Look at my beloved Bollywood which takes American Hollywood movies and poorly remakes them with Indians rather than showing the original version.
BTW, I believe Kristin Kreuk is half Chinese/Dutch Canadian. Eurasians are all the rage in Asia. So I am not sure why people freak out when Eurasians are cast in Asian roles.
Well, they already tried with Ming Na, and look how that turned out.... I'm not a big fan Smallville fan, so i'm not sure about her acting skills, i saw her on Snow White and she was ok, i don't know how she's gonna handle a big character like Chun Li on a major movie release (Snow White is also a big char, but it was a Hallmark movie).
Raj would seem to be right. According to IMDB:
Her father, Peter Kreuk, is of Dutch ancestry and her mother, Deanna Che, is of Chinese ancestry but born in Indonesia.
Okay, as a Chinese person, I always thought Kristin Kreuk looked a little Chinese but I'm not sure she looks Chinese enough for the part. She may pull the part off yet - but I'm afraid a story based on Chun-Li might never be a big hollywood release due to not having anyone 'big' to play the part to begin with.
So everybody loves the cartoon where chun-li has the most atrocious american accent, but a movie with an actress who is only half-chinese (and probably able to actually speak english, unlike fan-favorites like Jet Li etc) is a problem? Weird...
Idk, shes pretty ok on smallville but im kinda having a hard time picturing her as the strongest woman in the world and having legendary legs.
Yes, she's hot. But, just like Storm in X-Men, they should have picked someone with a tougher demeanor to play the part. I would have much rather seen Angela Basset as Storm! As for Chun-Li...people are just going to see her be cute and punch people, so I guess this works for straight America.
>I would have much rather seen Angela Basset as Storm!
Yeah. She would've been a much better Storm.
I don't know, Avshalon. If you play the Street Fighter games, Chun Li's always been a little girly. Like... she beats you up, and then jumps up and down giggling, flashes a "V for Victory" and says the equivalent of "Yay! I did it!" I think Kreuk would be a perfect choice.
I do agree on Storm though. They needed someone tough and classy. Storm's supposed to be a matriarchal figure, not little miss wannabe Halle Berry.
Tek Guy: Which cartoon? Because if you mean the anime movie, I never, ever, ever watch the English version of that. In fact, that dub is why I refuse to watch dubs, ever.
Yeah, I think i just came a little....
Kristin Kreuk is AMAZING!!!and is perfect for the role!!
Well if she is gonna cast as chun li. she better do a damn good job doing fight scenes and non of that floppy messy shit. they better make everything really coordinated and make the hits look like a hit. and she better start working on her fucking thigh muscles and get bigger tits. if she is gonna play chun li.
