Ken Levine Delivers Bioshock's Post-Postmortem

1up's Garnett Lee caught up with Ken Levine yet again to get his thoughts on the end of the year, what disappointed him most about his own game, and that Gamecock incident at this year's Video Game Awards.
As for what he thought Bioshock could have done better, he points to the end of the game.
I underestimated how much people would care about the story. The 3rd act of the game is the weakest part. I just never realized how much people were going to invest in the climactic Andrew Ryan scene, and I think the remainder of the game can not equal that.
I find it a little hard to believe he didn't expect people to completely fall in love with the story of Rapture, but I agree. For me, the end didn't really hold up compared to the first 2/3rds of the game, especially considering how other titles this season like Half Life: Episode 2 and Mass Effect completely made up for earlier missteps in the last act. It's a slight blemish on an otherwise stellar presentation.
As for his favorite game, he decides to toss a bone to an underdog, Jeanne D'Arc for the PSP, but mentions how the year really offered something amazing for everyone. As for next year, he's totally geeking out about Super Smash Bros Brawl.
Finally, he graciously deflects talk of any resentment over Gamecock hijacking the stage, and basically says he was just glad to be there. Still, he gives a hint of what he would have said, given the chance.
I had a tireless, amazing team who was on a mission to make BioShock great. We didn't have 300 people or five years. We had an insane amount of passion. I'd like to thank the people who made it with me, the families that patiently waited while we did our thing, the publisher with the guts not to make us change it, and the fans who showed that gamers have a much broader range of interest and intellect than anybody in certain parts of the media or the political space is comfortable giving them credit for.
