How To Score...A Wii & Rock Band

Wii Hunt.

Wired has put out a guide to help those people out there who don't own a Wii and/or Rock Band remedy their situation. For the most part, it's pretty common sense stuff. Nothing mystical here. However, their advice often does help. For example:

The best time for Wii hunting is early Sunday mornings, because that's when retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart release their weekly advertisements. And if they advertise Wii in the paper, they'll hold some systems for the day the ad hits.

...and:

Talk to the guys behind the registers at your local retailers, and find out when they get Wii shipments. Even if they end up holding some for Sunday, chances are they'll put out at least some of their stock the minute it arrives.

See? Not hard to do. You can try calling around to save gas, not deal with traffic and, generally, keep your cool. They're out there, dammit. You just have to find one and these tips are meant to assist you in that search. Of course, all that is easy advice to give as I managed to land my Wii on launch day. As for Rock Band, well the b/f is probably a lot more interested in it than I am, so I'll just leave the search to him. Good luck!! If you have any tips of your own, leave them in the comments.

Works the same way as Wii sales. That's how I got the Wii for my little brother. Call ahead, ask when shipments come in, and if you seriously want to get it show up an hour or two before the store opens.

And check Wal-Mart. God, there's always a Wii at Wal-Mart. It's like nobody ever thinks to go there. I can't enumerate the number of times I've been in Wal-Mart and seen a Wii and both 40 gig and 60 gig PS3s together at retail price.

Oh my God how wrong you people are.

1) Calling the store does not mean you'll get any kind of answer. No retailer really knows when the Wii's come in, nor are they likely to tell you (or the truth for that matter). You actually just make it much harder for people to do their regular jobs. There hasn't been a day this month I didn't have at least 30 calls to my electronics department a SHIFT for Wii consoles. We HAVE to answer that phone if it rings, so imagine how hard it is to help real people in the store who came all the way out there to find things they need. OR have questions answered about how to use this stuff. Don't even get me started about how hard it is to price and put away merchandise when the phone is constantly ringing.

2) While it's fine that your Wal-Mart has PS3's and Wii's just sitting around...it's not nearly the case for the rest of the country (especially in big cities like Michigan: Ann Arbor, Detroit, ect). People constantly hound everyone that works at Wal-Mart both in and out of the elec. department for Wii's. I've actually been screamed at by customers who were not happy with the "No, we don't know and no we don't know when" answer hits them. We are constantly sold out, as as far as Wal-Mart goes - nobody knows when they come in. That's not something they tell associates, or even management! Maybe at Gamestop or Best Buy they MIGHT...but regular department stores don't operate that way.

It's a cold, sad, fact that unless you're standing in the store when they come out, you're not likely to get them. Even if Ads come out items don't always come in stock for those sales. In a perfect world they would, but they just don't always.

I hate to sound so high and mighty about this but as a guy out there in that world selling these things, the DEMAND itself is getting overwhelming. I almost never want to touch another Wii again :(

I finally got a wii after searching the stores in my city for three months. I stood in lines for hours and made many phone calls to most of the stores without any luck. I decided to continue my wii search on line and ended up on a wii tracker web site. Their it was, the flashing in stock sign that stated amazon had the wii in stock for its retail price of $250.00.I highly recommend these wii tracker sites if you are trying to find a wii.
